In late April, I went for a craniosacral therapy session in which my therapist also uses energy work for healing. After the session, she said that a bird showed up and she thought maybe that it might be a raven. On that very same day when I returned to the house after getting the mail, a baby Great Horned Owl was on my front porch. I called Birds of Prey to see what I should do. They said that the mother owl would come by that night, and the baby would fly off with her. That’s exactly what happened, and I was left with a big mess to clean up. It returned to leave me another mess and so we started leaving the outside lights on in front and back. Then on Mother’s Day, as my grandchildren and I were going to the backyard to play, the same owl was by our air conditioner on the side of the house. We saw and heard the owl and its mother several times over the next few weeks including seeing it on the back fence and on the roof of the house opposite our backyard and moving its head up and down as it hooted. My wife named it “Ollie the Owl”.
There was great excitement with our neighbors and anyone else when we told them about Ollie and its mother. Some friends suggested that it showed up because it’s close to the area in our house where I chant and meditate. Others suggested that it was a good omen. So, I researched the occurrence of seeing an owl during the day and found one source that states “The owl represents knowledge, while the day represents the dawn of a new day. As a result, if you encounter an owl in the daytime, it tells us that you’re on the path to enlightenment. You’ll hear some good news that will change your life. An owl in the daytime is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity”. Another source said that the owl served as protection on my spiritual transformation.
I apparently need that as we’re studying spiritual transformation in my metaphysics class, Melanie Beckler has constantly talked about spiritual transformation and oneness in her videos, and our pastor’s homilies on the Ascension of Jesus and Pentecost have been about helping each other and listening to each other. He said that we ascend by helping each other up and not by putting other people down. When the Holy Spirit appeared to the apostles, and people thought that they were talking in their languages, he said that the people finally started listening to the apostles and each other. When the Tower of Babel was built as a tower to heaven, people stopped listening to each other, which then seemed to them that they developed different languages. There are many different Christian denominations who are all trying to build towers to heaven, but don’t listen to each other. He said that when we listen to each other, including people from all faiths, God comes down from heaven.
When I left after my acupuncture appointment, I found a $50 bill on the sidewalk, and so I wondered what Spirit would want me to do with it. Usually, I would use it for a treat for myself, my wife, or my grandchildren. But this time I thought about using it for something that would help other people. I had wanted to do something for the church in one of its outreach ministries. I had thought about the food bank, but I wanted to do something special. So, I got food that was low in sodium, low in sugar, gluten-free or whole grain wheat, organic, and no preservatives, antibiotics, or hormones. I had just found a new doctor who was certified in functional medicine which uses nutrition and supplements before using medication. By eating healthier, I lost 15 pounds and the aches and pains in my joints went away. The people who use the food bank don’t have many choices. The food must be non-perishable, and so I carefully checked the ingredients to meet my criteria for things like canned vegetables, soup, cereal, tuna, crackers, seeds, and nuts. So, after filling a double paper sack, I stapled a sheet of paper on the bag that stated:
Good Food for Good People
- Low Sodium (if lightly salted, then sea salt or himilayan pink salt)
- Low Sugar
- Organic
- No preservatives, hormones, or antibiotics
- Whole Grain or Gluten-Free
I put “Good People” because they are good people who need a helping hand, and I wanted them to feel good about themselves. I hope that food donated by the grocery stores also includes fresh organic vegetables, eggs, meat, and dairy. By doing this, I hope that the food banks will get the idea, as well as their contributors, that foods and drinks that don’t meet these criteria cause inflammation, heart disease, and diabetes.
At my last craniosacral therapy session, the therapist said that what came up, was oneness. This means that my spiritual transformation is happening. It’s hard to achieve oneness when dealing with people of different political views. I noticed that the country grew very divided in the mid-nineties when talk radio and cable news became prevalent. They are considered entertainment and use outlandish claims to drive up ratings which then increase sponsorship and revenue. When relatives or friends from the other side would send me articles jabbing my side, I would research the issues and debunk their views. Now my response is “Aren’t you tired of the hate?” instead of putting them down. As I go through my spiritual transformation, I know that one of my spirit guides is “Ollie the Wise Young Owl” who is protecting me and others who saw this magnificent bird as we go through our spiritual transformation.
