Lately the news has been dominated by authoritarian countries and politicians trying to assume power over others. But I have seen a shift happening slowly. I read three books that all talk about Oneness and Spiritual Love. One book is by Gary Craig called “The Unseen Therapist”, and the other two are by Melanie Beckler called “Energy Healing with Your Angels” and “Channeling the Guides and Angels of the Light”. The ebooks are free downloads at the authors’ websites. All three deal with handling negative emotions and the oneness of all. In “The Unseen Therapist”, negative emotions that happened to us during our lives, are the reasons for illness and disease, and it talks about the bliss of Spiritual Love for all. Melanie Beckler says to offer any negative emotion that you may feel, to the light. She also says that an act of kindness causes a quantum shift, and as it goes out into the universe and propagates, it comes back to you tenfold. My pastor often talks about how learning about our differences with others of all faiths, leads us to enrichment. He also says that when you react to meanness with meanness, you have just handed your power over to that person. In my class, our teacher always ends class says to go out have fun, enjoy life, and be an example of Spirit. This doesn’t mean that you have to be a pushover, and people who do bad things do need to be held accountable. Just don’t let the negative energy throw you off your balance and force you to respond with negative energy.
There was a movie some time ago called “Pay it Forward” about a little boy who as a class project to change the world says that if you receive a favor, then you pay it forward three times rather than paying it back. It ended up affecting thousands of people. My wife often tells me that when she goes to pay at the drive-thru at Starbucks, someone has already paid for it. So, often she does the same. If someone cuts me off in traffic, I figure that they may be in a hurry, and I back off so that there is plenty of room between us. One day I was trying to turn left into a recycling center on a busy street. There were a long line of cars coming towards me. Then a pickup truck flashed his lights and slowed down, allowing me to quickly make the turn. That was much different than the road rage that we all hear about.
As a grandfather, I get to watch a lot of animated films from the past and the present. This year’s recipient of an Academy Award for best animated film, “Encanto”, is about a family in Columbia in which all the family members have a special power except for one girl. It turns out that she has the greatest power of all, which is kindness, and ends up saving the family.
I was watching my grandchildren while dinner was being made. My granddaughter, Alene, is five and my grandson, Theo, just turned two. My grandson really liked this one toy and was playing with it for most of the time. My granddaughter had also wanted to play with it and was becoming upset that she wouldn’t have a chance to play with it. I feared that a confrontation was coming. So, I asked Alene if she could find a toy that he could play with, and then trade with him. My heart leapt for joy when he said, “Thank You, Alene. Here.” I know that it may not always be the case, and my son and daughter-in-law have working with them, but when a two year is kind, we should all be able to do the same. In my granddaughter’s school she is constantly being rewarded for acts of kindness with a paper bracelet stating what she did. She also got a note from school saying that she helped a fellow student who was new to the school and did not feel comfortable. She showed her around and sat and ate lunch with her. The power of kindness leads to cooperation and getting things done. Meanness leads to confrontation and stalemates. Kindness is really the Spiritual Love that Jesus, Buddha, Krishna, and other spiritual teachers teach. While we may not currently be able to convince dictators, politicians, or TV personalities, we can spread kindness in just our everyday lives, and that will make a quantum shift in the universe and will change the world for the better.
