The sound of Tibetan Singing Bowls has always struck a Divine resonance in me to the point that I could feel the presence of Spirit. This gave me the upmost reverence and respect for them. When I was in the Shining Lotus Metaphysical Bookstore the last time, I was told that they had just received a new shipment of Tibetan Singing Bowls. I was somewhat curious on how they worked to make them sing, and so I was given a brief demo. I couldn’t get it to work at first, but just as with any musical instrument, it takes a little practice. If you hold them in your hand, the trick is to keep your hand flat as they rest on it. If the pads of your fingers touch the bowl, it will dampen or stop the sound. You gently strike the bowl with a striker or mallet to begin the sound and the vibration. That alone is enough to make a beautiful tone that will last for a while. The stick has one end wrapped with leather so that if you prefer, you can also gently rub the outside of the bowl to make it sing with a beautiful sound and vibration as long as you rub it. I go in a clockwise direction around the bowl and the sound and vibration intensify and then it slowly stops after you stop rubbing it. You can also get a cushion shaped like an O-ring to hold the bowl.
Tibetan bowls have been around for thousands of years and are made of different types of metal. The most common are bronze which is a combination of copper and tin. According to some websites, there have been studies showing the health benefits of singing bowls like reducing stress, anxiety, depression, and fatigue. They can also increase energy and help with sleep, pain, and blood pressure. There are some precautions for different medical conditions such as pregnancy, epilepsy, and if you have metal in your body as the bowl will cause the metal to vibrate if you place the bowl on your body. There are also crystal bowls that came about in the 1990’s and are also beneficial with their sound therapy.
There are lots of websites that produce the various sounds of the bowls and if you put headphones on, you will enjoy all the wonderful tones and vibrations. In addition to all the health benefits, Buddhists have used the Tibetan Singing Bowls for spiritual purposes to help create a meditative state. This practice goes back thousands of years. They can help clear your energies, your chakras, and your aura. When I touched the bowl after striking it, I felt the intense vibration which I think made my vibration rise and made me feel that I was in the presence of God.
