MeditationI was going to write an article on a healing prayer until I heard my teacher talk about “The So Hum Breath”. It may also be known as “The So Hum Mantra” and many yoga instructors and gurus will have you chant “So” on the inhale and “Hum” on the exhale. But instead of saying the words, it’s the actual sound of your breath. You breathe in from the top of your head which is your crown chakra down to your pelvic bone which is your root chakra. As the air is inhaled, you hear “Soooooo” and as you exhale the air rises from your root chakra to your crown chakra, and you hear “Hummmmm”. “So Hum” are two Sanskrit words that translate to “I am That” which means I am one with Spirit and the universe. It helps you feel the oneness with all beings.

The teacher went on to say that if you continue to breathe the “So Hum” breath, you will generate a lot of energy, and you can direct that energy to heal whatever you want, whether it’s physical, emotional, mental or spiritual. If you want to address more than one thing, just move on to the next one while doing the breathing. While focusing on the breath, just feel the oneness with your intention. You will be in a meditative state, so that your subconscious will enable you to heal yourself, send the energy to someone else to heal them, or manifest something that you want. When I tried it, all of my little aches and pains went away.

This technique is very simple and yet it’s very powerful. At the very least, it will help you meditate by focusing on the breath and you will enjoy all of the benefits of meditation. It will also raise your vibration and guide you towards inner peace.
