Relating Planets to the Animal Kingdom

According to Occult Doctrine, all things in manifestation are expressions on varying levels of density of the seven rays that make up the color spectrum. The red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet colors comprise the seven primary color rays. These seven rays are the subjective cause of all that is apparent in the five Kingdoms of Nature most relevant to human experience. The first five Kingdoms from least to most evolved along with their primary color rays are- Mineral [violet], Plant [indigo], Animal [orange], Human [green], and the para-human or Master Kingdom [yellow]. All Kingdoms of Nature are differentiations of the universal One Life.

Esoteric Astrology teaches that all of the planets, including Pluto, Earth and Vulcan, are radiating bodies or instruments for one of the seven primary color rays. It also instructs that each of the seven primary color rays can be sub-divided into seven secondary or sub-rays which together create the color spectrum within the primary color ray. Examples of secondary color rays within a primary color ray include- the green sub-ray of the yellow ray, the red sub-ray of the blue ray and the orange secondary ray of the orange primary ray. Secondary rays modify or accent the energy of the primary ray.

The few credible astrological sources that I’m aware of that link animals to their planetary rulers have been traditional astrologers using the traditional seven planets of the Moon, Mercury, Venus, Sun, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn to represent the seven color rays. These astrologers can at times disagree about which planet rules which animal. This is a field of astrology that could greatly benefit and be taken to a new level by further research, intuition and study. The following small and partial list is my best interpretation of the planetary rulership of various animals and their primary color ray link. The animals are grouped in the order of birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians, and lastly with fish and other animals for each planet.

Moon [violet ray], includes violet-colored animals and animals linked to water- chicken, duck, goose, owl, cat, manatee, mouse, otter, rabbit, seal, frog, turtle, water snake, clams, crustaceans, fish generally, mooneye, night moths, oysters and snails.

Mercury [yellow ray], includes yellow-colored animals and smart or swift animals- budgerigar, cockatoo, ibis, jay, parrot, swallow, swift, ape, dog dolphin, fox, monkey, squirrel, weasel, chameleon, flying or gliding reptiles and amphibians, mullet, ants, bees.

Venus [indigo ray], includes indigo-colored animals and affectionate animals- dove, pelican, swan, thrush, bull, deer, indigo-colored reptiles and amphibians, coral, pilchard, salmon and whiting.

Sun [orange ray], includes orange-colored animals and strong, bold animals- eagle, falcon, hawk, rooster, horse, lion, lynx, beneficial snakes, lizards, and amphibians, dung-beetle, firefly and golden trout.

Mars [red ray], includes red-colored animals and ravenous, aggressive animals- kite, raven, seagull, some birds of prey, boar, ram, panther, tiger, wolf, alligator, snapping turtle, harmful reptiles and amphibians, barracuda, harmful fish, pike and shark.

Jupiter [blue ray], includes blue-colored animals and large or beneficial animals- partridge, pheasant, stork, elephant, ox, sheep. whale, large reptiles and amphibians, whale shark and giant fish.

Saturn [green ray], includes green-colored animals and black-colored animals as well as scavengers and underground animals- blackbird, crow, magpie, ostrich, vulture, bat, bear, goat, gopher, hare, hog, mole, mule, crocodile, toad, tortoise, eel and scorpion.
