THE ORIGINS AND CENTURIES-LONG DEVELOPMENT OF TAROT, PLUS ANCIENT CARD SPREADS AND DIVINATORY MEANINGS FOR FORTUNE-TELLING. PROFUSELY ILLUSTRATED AND WITH A COMPREHENSSIVE BIBLIOGRAPHY.
Tarot Classic contains over one hundred illustrations, including, for the first time, many reproductions of tarot cards from rare decks in the author’s private collection, and a comprehensive bibliography of one hundred and nine of the most important works dealing with tarot cards since the year 1540. Complete and factual, Tarot Classic pulls together, for the casual and the serious reader, the widely diverse worlds of the real and occult sciences.
Stuart R. Kaplan (1932-2021) became interested in tarot a few years ago while at the Nuremberg Toy Fair. After intensive research, he became an acknowledged expert and an avid collector. His private collection of ancient tarot books and decks is now one of the largest in its field.
Mr. Kaplan, with proper care and concern, has consented to the display of various rare items from his collection in museums. He has also, on occasion, demonstrated the fortune-telling properties of more recent acquisitions, like the Tarot Classic deck, on television and radio shows and to lecture groups. Stuart R. Kaplan is the President of U.S. Games Systems, Inc., a major New York distributor of tarot cards, games and tarot-oriented items. He and his wife, Marilyn, have five children.
