First published in 1918, this book is one of the classics of modern western mysticism. While it may seem that such concepts as ‘creative visualization’ and ‘imagining our own reality’ are recent innovations of the human potential movement, they are also found here — in a very lucid and eloquent form.

The author was a distinguished author, artist and poet and believed that each of us can use the creative powers of the imagination as a pathway to other worlds. The imagination can transport usu to an awesome, mystical universe and we then sense the vastness of the Infinite. This is the true nature of visionary inspiration.

A. E. was the nom de plume of George Russell (1867-1935). Russell was a major literary figure in the Irish Renaissance and a friend of W. B. Yeats. Like Yeats, Russell was strongly influenced by Theosophical mysticism and by the beauty of Celtic mythology. He was the author of several works, including Song and its Fountains and The Avatars, but The Candle of Vision is widely regarded as his masterpiece.
