JULY 2021 ASTROLOGY UPDATE
by Roy Neal

We begin the month of July with a Last Quarter Phase Moon in Aries on Thursday, July 1.  This waning cardinal square of the Moon and the Sun suggests a strong emotional desire to take action on manifesting more security for home and family.

On Sunday, July 4 we have an opportunity to celebrate our independence as an individual and as a nation.

We begin a new lunar cycle on the New Moon in the sign of Cancer on Friday, July 9.  This is a great time to start new projects for your home and family.  New beginnings in what nourishes your soul and brings you emotional fulfillment are favored.

The emotional theme of this month is highlighted as Mercury enters the sign of Cancer on Sunday, July 11.  Our ability to communicate out true feelings and needs is enhanced while Mercury is transiting the zodiac sign of Cancer.

Chiron goes retrograde in Aries on Thursday, July 15.  A desire to evaluate the authenticity and fairness of our personal actions will prove beneficial in our personal and professional relationships.  This is particularly true as we approach the First Quarter Phase Moon in Libra on Saturday, July 17.  Negotiations with others for mutual benefit is recommended.

Venus enters the sign of Virgo on Wednesday, July 21.  Cultivating skill in social and personal relationships will prove valuable in order for us to be productive and truly enjoy our work and service.

The Sun enters the sign of Leo on Thursday, July 22.  The importance of fun, love and recreation is emphasized while the Sun is transiting the sign of Leo. Creative self-expression and activities that bring us joy are emphasized.

Full Moon over Water

A Full Moon occurs in the sign of Aquarius on Friday, July 23.  Social activities and time spent with friends can make for an enjoyable and enlightening weekend.

Mercury enters Leo on Tuesday, July 27.  The desire to communicate our ideas and share authentically with others is highlighted.

Jupiter retrogrades back into the sign of Aquarius on Wednesday, July28. Opportunities to explore different ways of perceiving truth, spirituality, freedom and independence are now at hand.

Mars enters the sign of Virgo on Thursday, July 29.  Our desire to be more efficient and productive with our work and service will require that we successfully weed out our physical and emotional gardens.

A Last Quarter Phase Moon in Taurus on Saturday, July 31 emphasizes a conscious focus on what we emotionally consider to be of most value in our personal and professional lives.  We are learning more about what is essential to our emotional and financial well-being.

EGYPTIAN ZODIAC WITHIN THE BODY OF NUT
by Bruce Johnson

Nut – Valley of the Kings photo by Sumit Mangela

Nut, a name with various spellings, was the Egyptian Sky-goddess and the ‘mother of all the gods”, which include Osiris, Horus, Isis, Set and Nephthys. Nut is often portrayed as a gigantic woman whose arched body containing the stars and constellations, forms the vault of heaven. Artwork contained on or in relationship to Nut’s immense curved body can be stars, globes, other gods, segments and hieroglyphics, as well as  Re’s solar boat, which traverses it daily. Two Egyptian gods often seen with Nut are her mate Geb the earth god, and Shu, the air god who is usually located in between Geb and Nut.

Esoterically, Nut or Noot is a personification of what the ancient Egyptians called the Celestial Abyss, Divine Spirit or Akasa. Akasa or Akasha, is the Sanskrit name is the invisible super-subtle primordial substance that fills and pervades all space. Nut, or akasa, is mother source of all things and is That to which all things in manifestation eventually return. Akasa is to the ether as spirit is to dense matter.

Thoth-Hermes brought the tenants of astronomy and astrology to Egypt. Astronomically, he taught that the Earth was a sphere rotating on its axis while orbiting the Sun. Egyptian astrologers knew of the Precession of the Equinoxes and could predict eclipses by their cycles. Hermes was the instructor of the concept that the heavens could be portioned into twelve equal sections. Here the 360- degree zodiac is divided into twelve 30- degree arcs indicating the twelve astrological signs. All astrological signs can be divided into three 10-degree arcs called decans, each with their own planetary ruler.

The rising and culmination of the celestial bodies in relationship to the decans, is central to exoteric Egyptian astrology. The secrets of the ascendant and its ruler were particularly important to the esoteric astrology studied in the mystery schools of Thoth.

Various astrologers have proposed different placements of the twelve zodiacal signs within Nut’s star-filled body. Unlike modern astrology, the first House of the following Egyptian Zodiac begins at the Nadir rather than the eastern horizon, with the remaining eleven houses proceeding counterclockwise from that starting point.

1st House- Anubis, [Capricorn] A standing wand-bearing Anubis holding a kneeling tethered sea-goat.
2nd House- Canopas, [Aquarius] A female figure on a platform, with multiple breasts and appendages.
3rd House- Ichton, [Pisces] A mer-person holding a mason’s square in their right hand and looking at a miniature human figure in their left hand.
4th House- Amun, [Aries] A partially clothed standing male with double head-horns who is holding two staves, one in his raised right hand.
5th House- Apis, [Taurus]  A bull, sometimes with stars over its left shoulder.
6th House- Helitomenon and Harpocrates, [Gemini] Sitting twins who are facing each other with horizontally extended hands and arms.
7th House- Hermanubis, [Cancer] A bird-headed human sitting on a throne with hands and arms extended horizontally.
8th House- Momphta, [Leo] A maned crouched lion.
9th House- Isis, [Virgo] A woman holding grain sheaves in both hands.
10th House-Omphta, {Libra] A standing human figure with a crown holding a scales in the right hand and a measuring rod in the left.
11th House- Typhon, [Scorpio] A twin-tailed human figure holding an energy bolt in each hand.
12th House- Nephte, [ Sagittarius] A centaur holding a bow and arrow.

OIL PULLING
by Bob Romero

Recently I went to a new dentist because I moved a few miles away from Denver. I had been very satisfied with my previous dentist. It was disappointing when the new dental hygienist recommended a deep cleaning every three months that would be ongoing, and it would cost a $1,000 each time. I’m sure that her decision was based on her training at the dental school where she became a dental hygienist. After much consideration, I got a second opinion from my former dentist. He said that it was an aggressive treatment plan and would not recommend it. So, I decided to go back to my old dentist and make the long trip to his office every six months.

I also did some research on a holistic approach to deep teeth cleaning. The one technique that kept popping up was called “Oil-Pulling”. The article on WebMD, which is a traditional Western medicine website, endorsed the method, and stated that it was based on science. Swishing coconut oil in your mouth for 20 minutes will cause bacteria and other microorganisms that cause plaque and tooth decay, to stick to the coconut oil. Then spit the coconut oil into the trash and not the sink as it will clog up the pipes. It is an ancient practice from India, and it is a great supplement to regular flossing and brushing. When I mentioned it to my dentist, he said that he had other patients that had been doing it, and stated that whatever works for me, is fine with him. He also said that my teeth were healthy and would last a long time. The WebMD article also revealed that oil-pulling is part of Ayurvedic medicine.

My curiosity then led me to investigate Ayurvedic medicine which is India’s primary healthcare system. I found a wonderful website called “Taking Charge of your Health & Wellbeing” from the University of Minnesota describing it. It states that Ayurveda is completely holistic and strives to create harmony between the body, mind, and spirit. Much to my delight, it is one of many holistic practices that are covered at this website. It says that “Holistic practices are healing practices that are outside of pharmaceutical or surgical treatments”. However, they can complement conventional western medical procedures. What I like about holistic practices, is that they cover the whole body, and address not only physical, but also mental, emotional, and spiritual needs as well. Now I can get additional information of the techniques that I was aware of and learn about ones that are new to me. It is interesting to me to see how Spirit can guide us from disappointment to new avenues of enlightenment.

IN HONOR OF CANCER: THE CRAB
by Roy Neal

Cancer the Crab

The Sun enters the zodiac sign of Cancer on Sunday, June 20 at 9:33 pm MDT. Cancer is a water sign ruled by the Moon. The Moon symbolizes the mother and our emotional nature. June 20 is also Father’s Day.

The planet Mercury is currently retrograde in the sign of Gemini. During this retrograde transit we will have an opportunity to ponder the emotional impact of our childhood and the memories of our mother and father. This is an ideal time to bring more awareness to the influence of the Moon in our personal birth chart.

What zodiac sign was the Moon in when you were born? What house was the Moon located in and what aspects did the Moon form to other planets in your chart? Do these aspects reflect your emotional challenges and opportunities?

Learning more about your emotional needs and process is a worthy goal during the time while the Sun is transiting the sign of Cancer. Perhaps there is more to discover about your emotional journey during this lifetime.

Your experience of home, family and emotional security is highlighted if you have the Sun and other personal planets in the sign of Cancer
