The Positive Energy of Laughter

by Bob Romero

We have all heard that “Laughter is the best medicine”. Norman Cousins cured himself with laughter from a life threatening disease by watching old Marx Brothers movies and reruns of “Candid Camera”. There are articles on the Internet describing how laughter is good for us scientifically. It releases endorphins for our brains that make us feel good.  There have been a few studies with positive results, although pharmaceutical companies aren’t inclined to do them, as there is no profit. Laughter is free, and there are no harmful side effects, except maybe a sore stomach from laughing.

Laughter is not only good for us physically, but it also good for us mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. When I was at my 50th high school reunion, most of the memories shared were from funny events or situations, that helped us form bonds that lasted a lifetime. When I worked for corporations, the popular thing to do was to have team building events. Those usually were not very successful, but the teams in which we were always laughing and joking, brought us together and made us much more productive. Members were willing to help each other out and were more willing to do extra work in order to get the job done. I had a director who always did a Joe Pesci impersonation when we said that he was funny. It never got old. It was much more fun to go to work where there were smiling faces and camaraderie.

There is a quote “Laugh and the world laughs with you; Weep, and you weep alone” from Ella Wheeler’s poem “Solitude”. That’s because people want to be around other people that are happy instead of around those that are sad. It is a lot more pleasant to greet people who have a smile on their face than those who look depressed. Laughter is contagious and especially with people who have a loud distinctive laugh. I call these people, “Laugh Leaders”,

because their laughter alone makes us laugh, and makes whatever was said, a lot funnier. The sweetest sound in the world to me is hearing a young child or a baby laughing.

There is another old saying that says, “The family that prays together, will stay together”. I would add “The family who laughs together, would want to be together”. My mother always took it upon herself to entertain everyone around with funny stories.  Even at her 99th and a half birthday party, she had us all laughing so hard that I heard other people at the nursing home say, “Those people must really be having a good time”. I still have fond memories of my dad’s funny little sayings and his made up jokes. They must have made the rounds because I’ve seen a few in print.

There’s also another saying which is “Laughter is good for the soul”, which I think means that laughter brings us to our center, and helps us cope with challenging situations. It can also mean that laughter raises our spirits and our energy, which in turn raises our vibration. Maybe all of these old sayings about laughter are messages from Spirit telling us something on how to heal ourselves on all levels. Maybe when this concept is medically accepted, and when you call your doctor for medical advice, your doctor will tell you “Watch two funny videos, and call me in the morning”.

Bob Romero has been a diligent student of esoteric spiritual subjects and metaphysics for many years, with a life-long quest for answers. He has submitted new and original articles that focus on life lessons and experiences he wishes to share with our readers and the world.

The Life We Create

by Mario C. Veo

Whether we like it or not we are the only ones that truly shape our Life… Harsh statement, right ! Yes, we can easily point a finger at parents / teachers / the environment and yes – to some extent – they all played a part…BUT only if we let them.

Remember the old saying: You can lead the horse to water… The opposite is equally true – no matter what you offer someone, it’s still up to them to use it – or discard it… It’s called ‘Free Will’, and it’s a bitch, ’cause it’d be so much easier if we could blame somebody for our misfortune, our struggles, our lack… [heck, we can always blame politicians, after all, it really is their fault for screwing it all up…but I digress…]

Let’s look at one of our most fundamental desires – here we are, struggling to find that ‘special one’, that rare mystical being we call ‘the Soul Mate’, and – if we’ve been so lucky as to achieve this – we now have to be on our best behavior, do our utmost to keep them happy, and for the first time we really realize the meaning that “All good relationships require work” [… but what if you haven’t yet found them…what if no matter how hard you’ve tried, life is still a bust… are you still looking around to find someone or something to blame… to take responsibility for it all… ?!? Ok. I can hear some of you screaming back at me… so give me an opportunity to make it all right…]

Yes, there are cases where you were not at fault, when something was done to you , something that was totally unfair – and perhaps even brutal … and so here you are – hurt / wounded / betrayed… but you are not ‘irretrievably damaged’, there are many great and skilled Healers and Counselors whose calling is to help you, to guide you back to that radiant self that is – truly – who you are… So now the choice is yours – do you wish these perpetrators to rule you / your Life… or are you going to reclaim your Power, your gifts, your Right to a wonderful and fulfilling life…

You see, the choice IS yours to make – or not … just remember that Karma will follow – from life to life to life – until we get it right [so while we may get a short reprieve, we still have to learn the Lesson…] Now lets look at those who have not been traumatized, those that have had an ok life, so far… those that would consider themselves ‘happy with their lot’… If that’s your truth, then good for you… but are you willing to do a small little exercise… just a little one… It’s called “Envy and Regret” and it’s a good eye opener.

Simply look at your life – and those around you:  Do you have any regrets as to what you could / should / wanted to have in your life… or do you know someone who has something that you don’t, something that you really, really wish you had…

If you have any of these feelings then you’re not really ‘content’ with your lot… and, if you’re simply willing to put up with what you have, then you are not living at your fullest…and you do deserve more! You see ‘Envy and Regret’ should not be considered ‘bad’ or even undesirable feelings…rather they are messages that some part of you is dissatisfied with life – that it feels incomplete, and that it’s showing you clearly what it wants / needs / desires … of course, how we go about fulfilling this can often create an even bigger mess than we’re currently in  [so I refer you to those great Healers and Counselors above].

Ok, now that we’ve realized that it IS up to us to do something about living life to the fullest, where do we start ?   Easy, look at your physical environment… yes, your home / car / clothes – your Feng Shui – for they all have an Energy – which in turn carries Qualities – that shape your Life… and can easily support your changes – or block them mercilessly.

Next look at your relationships – for they are not only a reflection of your Life, but actively contribute to it – and figure out if they are gentle, loving, supportive people… or just vampires, enjoying your struggles, and doing all they can to keep themselves amused at your expense … And now you can begin making some small but important choices – the first steps on a new path of personal transformation… if you so wish… Remember – no one else can shape your life, but you… [for those of you who still want more information, we dedicate this month’s classes to your self-empowerment and self-discovery… enjoy !]

Planets And Possibilities – A Look At The Astrology Of October

by Sally Shotwell

As the month begins, the Sun (our consciousness) is passing through the air sign of Libra, motivating us to enhance our meaningful relationships with others and our environment.  Loving Venus , the ruler of this sign, is known for her charm and diplomacy and let’s tap into her energy as we expand and enrich  our connections and partnerships.  As we grow in this nurturing situation, our sense of security is enhanced and  so is our ability to navigate the shifts constantly occurring around us.  Let’s also keep in mind that Libra is a cardinal sign and committed to establishing harmony, balance and justice where ever possible.  This requires flexibility as well as strength.  We are now experiencing the challenges planets  in the sign of the Scales face as they encounter bodies active in other cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Capricorn).  It’s important we stay grounded as we observe the interesting scenario before us.

October 3 is packed with activity.  First  Pluto, Lord of the Underworld,  turns direct in earthy Capricorn which represents economic institutions and the structures of society.  Pluto’s forward movement signals we may now move forward having spent since April delving into our deepest motivations.  Their exposure offers us needed confidence in ourselves.   Soon after, Mercury leaves aesthetic Libra for watery Scorpio where his thought patterns become embroiled in visceral energies associated with our instincts and taboo subject matter.  Fortunately, Mars (our vitality) lightens things up by entering Libra and defusing some of the intensity through helping us to direct our efforts to cooperative ventures.
October 7 Mercury finds himself opposing innovative Uranus in earthy, practical Taurus and we may entertain eccentric opinions and brilliant communication caused by creative tension.  While still pondering this, the Sun clashes with taskmaster Saturn in Capricorn and we may feel frustrated about  blocked ambitions.  The 8th Venus joins Mercury in Scorpio and intensity sweeps away the gloom as we begin to seek out intimacy in our interactions.  Let’s pace ourselves as we switch gears as she and Uranus cross swords the 12th.  This promises emotional excitement and unpredictable behavior  but not long term stability.
October 13 starts out with the Sun and expansive Jupiter, in fiery Sagittarius, encouraging us to be confident about our circumstances as we move into the Full Moon (culmination) in Aries.  Actually, this is a heavily aspected event and both the Sun in Libra and the Moon (our unconscious) in Aries being confronted by relentless Pluto and his unending mission to dredge up everything that’s hidden.  The Moon, in true Aries independent form, wants to venture forth into unexplored territory and is at odds with the Sun who is  invested in relationship matters – something has to give.   The Sabian Symbols’ statement  “A pugilist enters the ring:  The release and glorification of social aggression.”   But given Libra’s penchant to transcend polarities “the ring with two fighters in it can be referred to the Tai Chi symbol and the interplay between Yin and Yang.  Each of the two types of energy wins in turn.  Victory is always temporary in a dualistic world.”   Is this drama playing out in our immediate lives?
October 15 Mercury and idealistic Neptune in  watery, transcendant Pisces, connect and share their heightened intuitive perspectives, instigating revelatory insights.  Let’s pay attention to what may register as whimsy, it could be profound.
October 19 Pluto meets up with Mercury, who is in his home sign of Scorpio, and they get down to business, helping us employ our analytical ability, revealing hidden material which help our understanding of a situation.  The 20th,  Venus and Saturn connect and commit to stabilizing our finances or a relationship with the guarantee of trustworthiness, lending us peace of mind.  The 21st, the Goddess of Love, Beauty and Money, contacts Neptune and we should open ourselves up to art, inspiration and, perhaps, romance.  Let’s soak up this relaxing interlude!
October 23 the Sun enters transformative Scorpio, the sign of depth psychology, which is ruled by Pluto (and traditionally Mars) and our deepest needs continue to reveal themselves.  This process can be very off-putting but we’ve already felt a certain lightness when a block which weighs us down is dissolved by the light of day.  We also become sensitive to life and death issues which can make our own lives feel more vibrant.   The 25th, Venus (still in Scorpio) and Pluto meet and they encourage us to honor our feelings, helping us acknowledge a deep understanding of what has been elusive until now.
October 27 Mars and Saturn clash (the Libra-Capricorn dilemma) and we again feel the frustration caused by being  thwarted as we prepare for the New Moon (new beginnings) in Scorpio. This New Moon  reassures us that  by our needs for intimacy and an understanding of deeply core personal issues, we contribute to the whole of our community. The Symbol states “A massive rocky shore resists the pounding of the sea:  The inertia of all institutionalized  procedures…How binding and resistant a communal way of life can become.  In this there is strength and stability, and these are necessary factors in the social life of man-until new horizons beckon.”  Stability  does not mean rigidity or stagnation and we’re fortunate to plant seeds in the underground which will contribute to our future growth.  The 28th, holding this thought helps us resist being vulnerable to uncertainty the opposition  between the Sun and Uranus creates, shaking up the status quo when controversies raise their ugly heads.  Deep breathe, right?
October 30 Mercury and Venus embrace and take one last waltz together in intimate and mysterious Scorpio and let’s tune into the affection the exude.  Are we sharing ourselves with others in meaningful ways?
Mercury turns retrograde October 31 (until 11/1) and his backward journey through the Underworld happening on All Hallow’s Eve is certainly interesting timing.   Have a great time celebrating and let’s pay the Trickster the respect he deserves!
Blessings

Esoteric Astrology

by Bruce Johnson

Encore Publication: This article was first published in the August 2014 issue of our newsletter. We thank Bruce Johnson for allowing us to share his writings and insights into the ancient mysteries and the occult.

Esoteric astrology teaches that the stars, constellations, planets, and planetoids all radiate energies that influence individuals, groups, and nations. Exoteric astrology deals primarily with the effects of planetary forces on the personality, the physical body, and Earthly environment. Esoteric astrology accents and studies the influence of the seven color rays on the soul, the seven bodies, and the chakras.
Occult astrology holds that the planets circling our sun, or Solar Logos, are not inanimate bodies in space, but living vehicles of intelligent beings. Esoteric astrology divides 10 planets, plus the sun and moon, into sacred and non-sacred planets. The sacred planets influence the higher self, are seven in number, and tend to unify the human personality, and blend it with the soul nature. The three non-sacred planets of Mars, Earth, and Pluto, plus the sun and moon, affect the form nature, the four most concrete bodies of the soul, and the human self.
Each sacred planet emanates and corresponds to a color ray. The seven sacred planets and their related color rays are-Vulcan-red, Jupiter-orange, Mercury-yellow, Saturn- green, Venus-blue, Neptune-indigo, and Uranus-violet. Each of these seven rays is again seven-fold and attuned to one of the seven major chakras. The seven sacred planets transmit the seven rays of the sun in the macrocosm of our solar system, as the seven bodies express the seven rays of the soul in our individual lives.
The seven sacred planets are connected with seven groups of divine beings known as Dhyan Chohans. The seven Heavenly Men, the seven planetary spirits, and the seven Archangels, are synonymous terms for the Dhyan Chohan. The Book of Revelations describes these celestial beings as seven lamps, and the seven spirits before the throne of God.
The 12 sun-signs of Aries through Pisces all have traditional and esoteric planetary rulers. The influence of the esoteric ruler of the sun- sign increases as we spiritually progress and are able to respond to the higher frequencies of our souls. Esoteric astrology teaches that we reincarnate in all the sun- signs many times in the course of our soul’s evolution. The 12 labors of Hercules are based on the tests and learning the soul experiences as it progresses through each sign.
The book- Esoteric Astrology by Alice A. Bailey is a foundation stone of spiritual astrology.

How to Attract – and Keep – Your Soul Mate with Mario C. Veo.  You can indeed develop soul mate qualities in a relationship, according to Daphne Rose Kingma in the book “The Future Of Love” (Doubleday). She says the essential attributes of soul relationships are:
Self-awareness. Self-awareness is knowing yourself deeply—and acting on that knowledge.
Aliveness. Aliveness is the energy that moves the relationship to something grander and more expansive.
Realism. Realism is personal authenticity, behaving like the genuine article that you are, showing your unvarnished self.
One of the greatest gifts you can claim is this perfect relationship… why would you settle for less…? Call 303-758-9113 to register.

What would they not do when making love?
They do everything; they leave nothing.”
