Lighting Candles

Lighting candles has been practiced for centuries in many different religions and for different reasons. Usually it’s for loved ones or for an intention that we’re asking God to fulfill. It can be for healing, or for a favorable outcome to a situation. It can also be devotion to Spirit, or denote gratitude for blessings that have been received.
There are different candles that you can use, varying from the small tea candles and votive candles to the larger jar candles, and in different colors and aromas. Color and aroma can enhance the power of the candle. For example, a green candle can be used for a healing prayer.
My mom always lit candles both in church and at home, and it was for all of the reasons mentioned above. She would sometimes promise to light a candle or say a rosary, or both, when confronted with a situation. Prayers are not always answered the way that we want, but it was amazing to me to see how often she would have favorable outcomes.
Lighting a candle is a very personal and sacred ritual whether it’s to Mother Mary, or to Mother Lakshmi. It’s very calming and peaceful. You can feel a divine presence as you light the candle. You go into a meditative state as you give your intention to God. After stating a request or devotion, ask for this or something better, and only for the highest good, and as Spirit wills it be. The light is a very powerful tool as it illuminates the darkness of the situation. You become centered right away, and all of your focus is totally on your intention and the flame.
If you partially close your eyes, you will see one to three light rays connecting you to the candle, usually to your throat or to your heart, and they can be flowing in both directions. There is a fundamental metaphysical principle that says, “Energy follows thought”. What better way is there to apply this principle, than by lighting a candle? No negative thoughts can occur, because you are concentrating on the flame and on your intention, while being in communication with Spirit. Sometimes miracles will happen, but no matter what happens, you will feel better.

Planets And Possibilities – A Look At The Astrology Of July

This Eclipse Season kicks off on a jazzy note when Mars (our vitality) moves from Cancer into dramatic, fiery Leo, joining Mercury (our thought processes), animating our discussions. The the Sun (our consciousness) is still ensconced in the sign of the Crab, the cardinal (assertive) water sign which represents our urge to nurture and protect our home and loved ones. We do this through sharing emotional and intuitive ties and are protective of them. It’s ruled by the Moon (our unconscious) and it’s symbol is The Mother, an archetype which we associate with, not only caring, but also, sometimes, possessiveness.
July 2 is a New Moon (new beginnings) Total Solar Eclipse (change) in sympathetic Cancer and, as we gather with others for Fourth of July celebrations, we may find the climate to be emotionally charged – let’s bring some fun to the situation. The Sabian Symbol is “A clown caricaturing well-known personalities: The value of humor in developing objectivity and independence of mind. Humor or irony is a powerful tool in assessing the value of sociocultural realities…” Laughter can save the day as we prepare to embrace lovely Venus as she enters Cancer the 3rd. She’s all about relationships and we feel more secure in sharing softer, more tender, feelings.
July 7 Mars turns retrograde in Leo, then Cancer (until 7/31). He’s joining heavy hitters expansive Jupiter in Sagittarius, idealistic Neptune in Pisces, and responsible Saturn with psychoanalytic Pluto in Capricorn, giving us the opportunity to turn inward, reflect on, and actually revisit, areas of our lives which need reorganizing. Delays are frustrating but let’s know that pulling ourselves together prepares us to embrace our future.
July 8 romantic Venus connects with unpredictable Uranus in earthy, sensuous Taurus and we broaden our scope interpersonally, having fun venturing beyond our established routine. MercuryRx conjoins Mars in heart-centered Leo and let’s make sure our communications are suffused with tact.
July 9 the Sun is at odds with taskmaster Saturn in earthy, ambitious Capricorn (opposite Cancer), and his playing the authority figure doesn’t go over well so let’s avoid any energy-draining clashes. The 10th he comes into his own again, sharing his watery psychic, intuitive feelings with other-worldly NeptuneRx in transcendent Pisces. We bask in the compassionate, artistic inspiration without becoming over stimulated feeling-wise since the 11th we need to have our wits about us. Mars and Uranus are both aggressive in nature and, when combined, their energies can be volatile. Restraining our tempers prepares us for another clash, this time between the Sun and relentless PlutoRx, in Capricorn, Bastille Day, the 14th. A power struggle we encounter may verge on the obsessive-compulsive so let’s remove ourselves or psychically withdraw!
July 16 is the Full Moon (culmination) Partial Lunar Eclipse (change) in conservative Capricorn with intense PlutoRx in close proximity. Cancer and Capricorn are both interested in assuring stability and security for us and we must reconcile the demands of home and work, balancing our own and societal needs. The Symbol states “A store filled with precious oriental rugs: The use of cultural and artistic processes as a means to enhance personal comfort and appreciation… This symbol.. brings us back to the material, yet esthetic aspect of the benefits a society can bring its members.” Soon after, harmonious Venus is confronted by restrictive Saturn and we may have the sensation of separation or loss but this is assuaged the 18th as she and Neptune cross paths. Warm-hearted affection, and even romance, may be in the cards but MercuryRx backing into sentimental Cancer the 19h can cause confused thinking.
July 21 beleaguered Venus is confronted by passionate Pluto and another power struggle ensues but we, like her, escape any damage and face MercuryRX conjoining the Sun in one piece. With them being together in Cancer, we can expect strong opinions to be expressed and ultra-sensitive reactions to follow. The 22nd the magnificent Sun sails into heart-centered Leo and we’re encouraged to savor this high-spirited development. His entry to his home sign signals it’s time for us to throw ourselves into what ever creative suits our fancy. It’s time to express our individuality!
July 24 MercuryRX teams up with Venus in watery Moon territory and offers us their warm glow to bask in, grateful for the kindness. The 25th Mars and JupiterRX meet and we’re happy to accept the encouragement they offer for a dream we hold dear. The 27th social Venus enters Leo and, with the Sun’s backing, we feel like taking flight into an exciting new milieu. Let’s wait, however, until the unstable influence of the Sun and Uranus, meeting the 29th, passes.
The Symbol for the July 31 New Moon (new beginnings) in regal Leo states “Glass blowers shape beautiful vases with their controlled breathing: The need to involve one’s most spiritual and vital energies in the creative art if it is to produce significant and beautiful new forms.’‘ Let’s use this message as a guide for involving our own spiritual and vital energies to grow in self-awareness and vision.

Esoteric Astrology

Esoteric Astrology teaches that the stars, constellations, planets, and planetoids all radiate energies that influence individuals, groups, and nations. Exoteric astrology deals primarily with the effects of planetary forces on the personality, the physical body, and Earthly environment. Esoteric astrology accents and studies the influence of the seven color rays on the soul, the seven bodies, and the chakras.
Occult astrology holds that the planets circling our sun, or Solar Logos, are not inanimate bodies in space, but living vehicles of intelligent beings. Esoteric astrology divides 10 planets, plus the sun and moon, into sacred and non-sacred planets. The sacred planets influence the higher self, are seven in number, and tend to unify the human personality, and blend it with the soul nature. The three non-sacred planets of Mars, Earth, and Pluto, plus the sun and moon, affect the form nature, the four most concrete bodies of the soul, and the human self.
Each sacred planet emanates and corresponds to a color ray. The seven sacred planets and their related color rays are-Vulcan-red, Jupiter-orange, Mercury-yellow, Saturn- green, Venus-blue, Neptune-indigo, and Uranus-violet. Each of these seven rays is again seven-fold and attuned to one of the seven major chakras. The seven sacred planets transmit the seven rays of the sun in the macrocosm of our solar system, as the seven bodies express the seven rays of the soul in our individual lives.
The seven sacred planets are connected with seven groups of divine beings known as Dhyan Chohans. The seven Heavenly Men, the seven planetary spirits, and the seven Archangels, are synonymous terms for the Dhyan Chohan. The Book of Revelations describes these celestial beings as seven lamps, and the seven spirits before the throne of God.
The 12 sun-signs of Aries through Pisces all have traditional and esoteric planetary rulers. The influence of the esoteric ruler of the sun- sign increases as we spiritually progress and are able to respond to the higher frequencies of our souls. Esoteric astrology teaches that we reincarnate in all the sun- signs many times in the course of our soul’s evolution. The 12 labors of Hercules are based on the tests and learning the soul experiences as it progresses through each sign.

What’s Up, Dawg…

Have you ever woken up one morning wondering what’s going on… what happened to the world… and whether it’s not them, it’s you… [what a frightening thought!]
Do you get caught up in a past memory, and unconsciously smile thinking about some wonderful thing that you did, way back when… and then catch yourself and think “I’m getting old…” but are you, really…?
They say that 50 is the new 40, that we’re not really old until the cashier at the check out counter asks you if you need help getting your small bag of groceries to your car… and worse, calls you ‘Sir/Madam’… [I know, they are required by management to say that… but still I wonder what the cut off point is – at what age do you become ‘Sir/Madam’ 35… 30… 25… or is it just the way you look…? I got a kick the other day when I addressed the young grocery guy as ‘Sir’… he was puzzled for a moment until he realized I was talking to him].
But, none of this is really important – yep, I know, it’s just empty and meaningless management rules [do you really think they are interested in how you are today…? try telling them about your headache / latest surgery / bunions / or what you really think about the latest tariffs… they’re just being polite, but empty like… Yes, I know, I digress].
What is really important is NOT all this meaningless, vanilla, social ‘correctedness’ [which was probably invented by some college professor desperately yearning for tenure… well, y’know, he had to come up with something that made him ‘stand out and be special’… Oh, sorry, shouldn’t assume… he or she or them… really, wouldn’t want to offend anyone, so consider all you professors out there included in the IF you so choose].
Again, I digress… what I’m really getting at is how easily we are drawn away from the truly important things in Life, and are led to focus on things that ultimately are purely transient – all because someone has made it their political project.
Now, don’t get me wrong, IF it is truly important to you, go for it… but tell everyone why… what makes your quest for redress necessary… just remember that this too shall pass [just like whale-bone corsets, bonnets, top hats, 8-track tapes, cassettes, 2D TVs, gas-powered cars, 9-5 jobs, brick & mortar stores, forever marriages, cash currency, paper books… and the world-as-we-know-it…].
So… if what you have to say truly helps – us ALL – to grow and evolve… peacefully… I’m all for it.
If what you have to say is some petty, special-interest dogma that favors a select few, please keep it to yourself… because, y’see, much like the dinosaurs, you too shall pass…
Why am I even writing about this? Because there are a lot of very important social problems that we seriously need to address… What? do you need examples…?
Try school shootings, teen suicides, rape, racial violence, homelessness, economic inequality, a rapidly decreasing educational standard… and many, many more… None of us are immune, so don’t just shrug it off thinking that “It will never happen to me… not in my neighborhood…” ask Marie Antoinette how that worked out for her…
So, you want change…? Good – let it be positive change, educate people as to why it is better / necessary / important to embrace your particular change… but not through violence, not through abusive words, not be belittling others… rather try uplifting everyone, try diminishing separation and segregation, and realize once and for all, that this is the only planet we have, and we are not only screwing it up, but we are going backwards, towards a more aggressive, violent state of being… so much for being a ‘civilized society’.
Autocracy might have sounded good when discussing philosophical concepts, but dictatorship is no better… So – what price is Freedom, and why do you think oppression is the answer…? [Is the Mothership coming soon?]
