What Lurks In Darkness…

Long, long ago, well before Eden got its special garden, our universe was filled with wonderful creative Beings…indeed, so special this was that many came, even from other dimensions – some simply to admire the beauty that was being created, others to try their own skills at shaping new worlds and new creatures.
Mighty Beings applied fantastic skills to create ‘pocket universes’ where unusual laws of physics applied – now we had dragons that could fly, breathing fire and granting wisdom to those few who dared approach them… Ethereal Beings were birthed that could cross dimensions, shape the very Light of Creation, and change Nature with their Will… Oh, what magnificent revelries… the Lords of Light dancing with the Queens of Darkness, together in joyful merriment – after all, it was all part of the Great Cycle of growth and expansion, of the union – nay, the mingling – of Night and Day.
What a glorious time it was, to be able to play with creation… to explore… to engage in bountiful imagination… and even to dare give these very creations the power of Free Will … to give them full reign to create on their own… simply to see what the outcome would be… At first it was joyous – well, much like a doting parent would appreciate a child’s drawing, the new creations were somewhat simplistic – let’s be gracious and say they were playfully innocent, and so considered ‘amusing’ in their own way… And, as any good parent would do, they showered praise and encouragement so their creatures would do more, broaden their abilities, explore more of the unlimited potential that is, after all, the Universe…
This they did – courageously if not always successfully… [well, there was that incident with colliding worlds and suns going nova…but we don’t talk about it…] We are doting Beings… and these merely our ‘children’, so excuses must be made…
They spurred them to be more adventurous, more daring, even going as far as rewarding the ones that showed the greatest potential by showering them with gifts, with new abilities, with more power… just to see if any of them would truly excel, would truly manage to grow beyond their simple lives, would bring some little bit of excitement to their – oh, ever so jaded – eternal lives… [“It’s just so tough to be a god … people simply don’t know how boring eternity can be …”]
And so, just to make it exiting, they took bets – “My children can beat any of your children…” and the winner would get …??…Nothing… They could not agree on a prize, for, as gods they already had everything… So, what could they offer…? “I know !” said the youngest one “Let’s free our children to do what they will…with absolutely no restrictions whatsoever… and see how far they’ll go… After all, we made them out of ourselves, so they could surprise us ! And whoever the winner is, will have access to Divine Powers… ”
Well that surprised a few – “Really ! Give them Divine Powers…? What, are you daft …!?” But, you know, boredom being what it is, they soon agreed – “Absolutely no interference… and let the dice fall where it may !” At first it was absolutely fantastic, with whole worlds created out of pure Light, and Beings of glorious radiant color… But it could not last, for they also discovered ‘destruction’… and now it was more fun to wait quietly, hidden in the shadows…and just as a new sparkling creation was finished, they would swoop in, and with great glee, blow it all up, tearing up the very fabric of the universe, allowing their destructive ecstasy to enthrall them…. again and again and again… There was no stopping them… Drunk with Power, they wallowed in their berserk fury…and all fell before their frenzied hunger…
Now even the younger gods grew weary, and decided that this was a poor experiment indeed “No fun, no fun at all”…and thus it was decided to terminate such revolting children… Together they turned their might upon them, trying again and again to end such a foolish race… Alas, it was too late, for destruction feeds upon destruction, gorging its creatures with more and more Power… All it accomplished was to make these violent creatures aware of their attempted interference… Ah, and now the dice comes to rest… These vile creatures turned their attentions to the gods: “We are the self-created, and none shall dare against us…Beware our fury, for we are born of Darkness…and all shall be as nothing before us.” And so the very gods knew fear for the first time… and out of the still night came a whisper “Behold your own creations…Be afraid…Be very afraid…”

Planets and Possibilities: A Look at the Astrology of February

As this month begins, due to the recent eclipses, we find ourselves pondering insights which somewhat alter the way we see our current situation. This new information is helpful since it offers clues as to how we can expand our understanding of what’s going on as the ground seems to be shifting under our feet. Fortunately, clarifying our thinking is a priority of the Sun (our consciousness) and Mercury (our thought processes) now in airy, intellectual Aquarius, whose nature is to avoid emotional over- reactions. This fixed, air sign is known for its detached assessment of situations and out-of-the box solutions to issues. Its symbol, the Water Bearer, represents an altruistic attitude toward humankind, pouring blessings down on us in hopes we achieve a humane brotherhood within our society. However, we must keep in mind that modern ruler, brilliant, unpredictable Uranus insists on helping us embrace our authenticity by removing that which is holding us from embracing our freedom. While offering us great promise, heading into the new can be stressful and we benefit from the support of those we have genuine relationships with. Are we nurturing these meaningful relationships?
February 1 we employ Aquarian detachment as volatile Mars in fiery, aggressive Aries and relentless Pluto in earth, ambitious Capricorn, clash in a power struggle. By remaining disengaged in this no win situation allow ourselves to fully enjoy the meeting on the 2nd of beautiful Venus in fiery, adventuresome Sagittarius and eccentric Uranus in, also fiery, Aries. The chemistry they generate promises fun (which we need) but not particularly of long duration. The 3rd Mercury and optimistic Jupiter, in Sagittarius, are exuberant in encouraging us to expand our ideas and set exciting goals but, again, let’s pend about making and commitments. Venus, Goddess of Love, Beauty and Money, enters Capricorn where her allure becomes more subdued as relationship security and longevity become more attractive to her. Romance is still on the table but we feel it expressed in a more mature way than what we’ve been experiencing. Does this fit in to our scheme of things?
February 4 the New Moon (new beginnings) in innovative Aquarius makes contact with Neptune, Saturn, Venus and Jupiter and we may be inclined to investigate new altruistic causes. The Sabian Symbol states “A big business man at his desk: The ability to organize the many aspects of an enterprise involving a large group of human beings.” The trick is to use the power generated by human togetherness to promote the welfare of the individual AND the group. We experience a sense of fulfillment when we genuinely have concern for one another.
February 7 the Sun and aspirational Jupiter shine their combined light on us and instill in us the concept that, where ever we may be, possibilities loom in the future. Mercury and Mars add their sharp-wittedness and stamina to motivate us to share our goodwill with others. The 10th communicative Mercury moves into watery, other-worldy Pisces and our thoughts take a more compassionate tone, softening our attitude as we interact with others. We’re being asked to honor heart-felt feelings which starts with our backing off from stringent self-judgment.

Venus Symbols Of The Tarot

Venus as the goddess of love and light bearer to earth is an ancient symbol of the soul. Venus, like the human soul, is dual, with a solar or electric energy, balanced by a lunar or magnetic force. She demonstrates her solar influence in the tarot through the Strength card and her lunar traits through the Empress card, which includes the cross of Venus.
The cross of Venus, like the ankh that was sacred to Isis, places the circle of spirit above the cross of matter. This astrological symbol for Venus represents the unifying and balancing of two opposite forces. The circle represents spirit, the higher self, and the positive pole. The cross depicts matter, the human personality, and is negatively polarized. Combined, the circle and cross indicate our total being, part spiritual and divine and part physical and human.
The Strength card displays a woman dressed in white with wreathes of roses peacefully controlling a lion. She is the solar expression of Venus manifesting as divine mind. The symbol of infinity is above her head as she completely dominates the lower animal nature personified by the lion. 
This card shows Venus as the spiritual soul blending with and governing the lower personality. Additionally, this card reflects the third major initiation of the soul, the Transfiguration, and the Libra rulership of Venus.
The Empress card shows a queen with a crown of 12 stars and a scepter of power, sitting on a throne. She is Mother Nature, surrounded by green growing life, with a heart symbol resting against her throne. The center of the heart holds the cross of Venus with the circle colored green, the color of Venus. She represents the creative life of physical matter and corresponds to the lunar feminine aspect of Venus. This card portrays the love nature of Venus and her rulership of the sign Taurus.
Combining the solar and lunar qualities of the Strength and Empress cards reveals the Wisdom/Love basis of Venus and the soul. Venus as the morning star is wisdom, while Venus the evening star is love.

A Life Well Lived

As a counselor I meet many people whose main concern is ‘relationships’ – be this with lovers, children, bosses and co-workers… it seems that ‘relationships’ are central to Life, and, if they don’t work too well, then Life loses flavor, loses sparkle, loses vitality… I have been taught that ‘Man is a social animal’ thus requires companionship to feel secure / needed / wanted / appreciated… It seems that we are ‘nothing’ without others around us.
We’ve all heard the saying: “No man is an island”… or… “It takes a village to raise a child”… so, basically, we are surrounded by a sea of people, each touching, jostling, pushing, and influencing one another… there is simply no escaping this continuous interaction. And in this never-ending current we find ebbs and flows, movements that uplift or depress this unity, that create tides and directions … that move Mankind towards a specific shore… The question now is: “Who or What is creating this current… and where are we going…?”
On a simple level this is easy to answer – politically we are moving towards conflict, increasing separation and opposition, relying on bullying and coercion to favor the chosen few… having forgotten that governments ‘should’ be serving the nation, and not wallowing in Power… Economically we are fast moving towards inflation, loss of international co-operation and respect, restricting growth and prosperity… on a personal level we are moving towards insecurity, loss of trust, a withdrawal from open interactions, and an increased sense of betrayal….
As a counselor I help my clients focus on personal achievements, better discrimination, a gentle withdrawal from people and situations that are promoting discord and dissent… and to strongly focus on all that brings them joy, all that is healthy and uplifting, and to cherish those relationships that are based on mutual respect and appreciation…
As a Spiritual teacher I encourage students to consider their afterlife… for everything we do, in this human life, will determine not only Where we’ll end up on the Inner Planes [simplistically we could describe these as ‘hell’ or ‘purgatory’… still, not very pleasant]…and the consequences this will create… but equally important is to understand that whatever we do in this Life will create the foundation for our next incarnation… complete with Karma and obstacles, pain and sorrow, health or disease …
So, if we’ve actively contributed to derision and belittlement, to exploitation and abuse, to emotional or physical cruelty… then, guess what – those very same energies will now be directed at us… and worse this we do to ourselves… So think carefully… for all is simple Energy, shaped by our thoughts, words, and actions… and whatever we give shall come back to us threefold…and this Life is simply one bead on a string, touching and influencing the next… But what of a Life well lived …?
That’s easy – be happy… laugh, play, embrace beauty… be healthy, kind, generous and loving… surround yourself with people and situations that embrace the same values, that encourage respect and appreciation, that are actively creating the Brotherhood of Man… And strongly resist and reject all manipulations that are based on fear, that stimulate anger, that belittle and condemn others simply due to superficial differences… and know this well: “Such is evil,, no matter if clothed in status and power…”
Do not be fooled… there is only Light…or Darkness… Where do you stand, here and hereafter… ?
