I have been waiting to experience something metaphysical in order to write another article. What I didn’t notice was that there has been a subtle phenomena happening to me over the past few years. I’ve heard about Clairvoyance, the psychic ability to see, and Clairaudience, the psychic ability to hear, which are very obvious, but I wasn’t aware of the psychic ability to smell, called Clairalience.

I had always assumed that the pleasant fragrances that I smelled were colognes, incenses, or essential oils. A few years ago, after my Reiki session, I complemented my Reiki master on the sweet aroma in her studio, and asked her if she used special oils like Jasmine or Eucalyptus. She replied that there were no oils. She also said that she worked with my angel during my healing session.

Some months later, I discovered that a colleague of mine at work, was a Reiki master, and had been involved with spiritual healing since he was in high school. We met one day at a park for lunch to discuss our experiences. He was trying a different healing technique on me, and what I thought was the scent of his cologne, was a really strong aroma. It was similar to what I smelled at my Reiki session. When I mentioned it to him, he said that he wasn’t wearing any cologne. The smell stayed with me even when I got in the car.

A couple of years later, when I attended classes at the Shining Lotus, I didn’t give any attention to the sweet scents that I smelled as I thought that they were from smudge sticks or incense in the store. Then recently, when I was in a Channeling class, I was in the back of the class, and I smelled a very sweet aroma that was different. Again I thought that someone at the store had lit a smudge stick or incense.

The following week, when I attended the follow-up class on predictions for 2019, I smelled the same scent, but this time I recognized it. Our teacher had given us smudge sticks from a sacred Indian ashram of Sai Baba. He had also given some to the store. So this time I asked the owner if he had lit the smudge stick during our class. He said “No” and had not lit any sticks, sage, or incense that morning. I was somewhat baffled, as the scent was very very strong.

I then began doing research on clairalience, and thought maybe that’s what has been happening to me. I’ve always had a strong sense of smell and so maybe this is a gift that’s been given to me. At the next Channeling class I was eager to see if it would happen again. Unfortunately, I didn’t smell anything. I figured that I needed to be still and centered, and not be so anxious. Amazingly as I wrote this article, I have noticed a faint whiff of the scents that I mentioned earlier. So maybe all this time that I have been searching for a psychic ability, it’s always been right under my nose.

Planets And Possibilities – A Look At The Astrology Of April

The month begins with the Sun (our consciousness) in fiery Aries. This dynamic sign is ruled by Mars (our vitality) who epitomizes the urge to push forward, in this case initiating the yearly cycle of Spring when Nature awakens from her dormancy.  We, ourselves, may experience this influx of energy as a desire to venture into new and unexplored territory (Aries is the pioneer) but we need to temper our enthusiasm as we venture forth. Mental Mercury, lovely Venus and impressionable Neptune are  in watery, otherworldly Pisces where rational thought takes a back seat to dreaming, causing foggy thinking. April 1 warrior Mars enters airy, communicative Gemini,  inspiring us to really throw ourselves into all sorts of new searches for information, followed by energized discussions. April 2 we can practice our resolve to not sink into confusion, and perhaps deception, when Mercury and Neptune combine their imaginations and illusions. Fortunately we have the Aires New Moon to look forward to the 5th.
The Sabian Symbol for this New Moon (new beginnings) is “Nature spirits are seen at work in the light of sunset: Attunement to the potency of invisible forces of nature. In the light of personal fulfillment (symbol of sunset and wisdom) man may be able to establish a life-giving contact with natural forces…”  During this period when we are planting seeds that will sprout and grow throughout the year, it’s important to honor the tremendous impact the Moon (our deepest feelings and emotion) has on our psyche and actions. Its current position in the sign of courage and initiative gives us the opportunity to open up to growth processes available to us.
April 7 Mercury encounters serious Saturn, in earthy, practical Capricorn, and our thoughts become more grounded, allowing us to give credence to our perceptions. The 10th we find  Saturn in his role as teacher, at odds with impetuous Sun arguing about how to approach an issue. This kind of kerfuffle isn’t new and let’s focus on benevolent Jupiter in fiery, belief-oriented Sagittarius, turning retrograde (until 8/12), offering us the down time we need to revisit our inner values. We can evaluate how our environment is shaping our world view and what we want to rearrange.
April 11 Mercury  and JupiterRx clash and it’s important for us to remember that this shaky combination leads to miscalculations and worse.  The 12th things settle down as relationship-oriented Venus and dependable Saturn find comfort in each other, each appreciating loyalty and politeness in social matters. Are we arranging free time in our schedule to engage in supportive social time of our own?
April 13  the Sun and relentless Pluto, in Capricorn, struggle to dominate the scene and it’s best if we monitor the interaction that takes place around us.  Let’s avoid being exposed to this charged energy, both personally and via the media since being grounded is our goal. The 14th the Sun moves on and taps into the positive influence of JupiterRX, the thought of adventure and a new launch may raise our spirits and optimism about our situation. Charming Venus and profound Pluto further the pleasant atmosphere as they commune deeply with each other, reminding us of the benefits authentic relationships offer. Let’s hold this thought the 15th as Venus and JupiterRX make an awkward connection, eliciting a self-indulgent, careless approach which we’re not interested in employing with others.
April 17 Mercury FINALLY leaves watery Pisces and charges into assertive Aries. Our thoughts are now fueled by the vigor of The Ram and verbal communication accelerates. This is most stimulating but we need to think about what we’re saying before we speak. The 18th we have the Full Moon (culmination) in airy, harmony-oriented Libra (the 2nd of the year) and have the chance to resolve unfinished business  which surfaced March 20.  The Aries-Libra polarity accentuates the dilemma of balancing the integrity our individuality with our relationship to others. We grow in self-understanding as we ponder how we function at-large.  The Symbol states “Three mounds of knowledge on a philosopher’s head. The fulfillment of man’s power to understanding at whatever level of existence the person operates. A true philosopher is a man who is able to ‘understand,’ not merely ‘know,’ the processes of life as he comes to experience them directly…“

April 20 is the beginning of Passover as the Sun enters earthy Taurus. Venus, Goddess of Love, Beauty and Money, is the sign’s ruler and an emphasis is placed on our enjoyment of Nature and her bounty. The Bull symbolizes this sign’s stalwart character and commitment to nurturing the seeds planted through the initiative of Aries.  Manifesting and maintaining a secure environment are top priorities and we may find being more rooted in our immediate space. Transiting Venus is simultaneously entering Aries where she takes on a new persona to accompany her interpersonal forays. We may surprise ourselves by a new directness as we mingle socially in new circles. This juxtaposition can be confusing so  let’s have fun but  be hesitant about commitments since Pluto’s retrograding the 24th and Saturn follow’s suit the 29th. As always, during these periods we may feel inhibited in branching too far out of our comfort zone. Easter is the 21st and what ever our belief system may be, symbols of bunnies and eggs remind us of the the theme of renewal. Let’s embrace it.

April 22 the Sun and innovative Uranus commingle in tradition-bound Taurus and the unexpected should rule the day. Weather conditions could surprise us (what else is new) or financial issues may come to the fore. Let’s keep deep breathing and Rescue Remedy in mind.
April 27 assertive Mars has a misunderstanding with nebulous Neptune and turmoil could prove disorienting. It’s important for us to be present in the moment and play the role of detached observer.
Above I touched on the retrogrades of Pluto (4/24-10/2) and Saturn (4/29-9/18). They offer us the time to review and assimilate information in preparation for future circumstances. We have a lot of support as we journey through turbulent waters and we have each other!

When Life Gives You Lemons… Throw Them Back!

[This is the story of an old man and a young woman… just read and don’t jump to conclusions…]

A new neighbor moved in just last month a few doors down the street…she looked tired, and still moved many boxes all by herself… Maybe she’s all alone…I should introduce myself and ask if she’d need any help – be nice to have a friend at last… No one else wants to talk to me “Too busy” they always say…and mumble “Weird old man” under their breath as they rush off to work / pick up the kids / soccer practice / dinner with friends…
“Rushing, rushing, rushing to burn up life…” I say quietly to myself.

Last week she walked past me while I was picking up the mail – and smiled !
She has a nice smile… Yes, I think I’ll go and introduce myself, next I see her… maybe even bring her some flowers from my garden…the roses are gorgeous this year… I wonder if she likes roses…?

Yesterday she said “Good morning”, and smiled too…such a pretty smile. Yes, I think I should give her some roses…definitely…

Today I am waiting for her by my gate, a beautiful rose already cut…
Ah, there she comes…a little rushed, as if sensing our special encounter… I smile and hold up my hand, “Hello” I say, a little shyly..
“Sorry, no time – late for my appointment” she says over her shoulder, as she rushes by…glaring…

Ah, foolish me…foolish, foolish old man, thinking that anyone would like me for a friend…
She’s just like all the others…when will you learn “Too busy…too busy…too busy…”

Castles in the air – what foolish man I am…“Give up, old fool – no one wants to be with you… You are the past, not the present…had your chance…just give up already…when will you learn – NO ONE WANTS YOU….”

And so he did …stayed at home most of the day, doing….nothing …
Just growing old…alone …bitter … angry … resentful at all the young people around him…and her especially, for giving him hope…for smiling… for making him think that perhaps … And so he sits, and feeds off his anger like a man starved…

And what of the young woman ?
There she sits in the darkened room… staring… just staring… as she again hears those brutal words from her doctor “It’s no good … the cancer has spread too far… too late to do anything …just a few months at best… I can prescribe something to dull your pain, if you want…”

She jerks her head again and again and again… as if by denying it would go away…

There she sits, quietly staring in the darkness… alone… no one to talk to… no one to share her last days… no friend to shelter her … just … nothing … waiting for… nothing…

Ah, if only there was a moral to this story …

Adam, Eve and Reincarnation

Encore Publication: This article was first published in the May 2014 issue of our newsletter. We thank Bruce Johnson for allowing us to share his writings and insights into the ancient mysteries and the occult.

Adam and Eve did not die after eating from the tree of knowledge of good and evil as the Lord God prophesied they would. Instead, they were clothed in “garments of skin”, became thistle farmers, and begat the human race. Let’s examine this allegory of the human spirit falling into matter, or reincarnation.

Adam/Eve is the soul as formless spirit, naked or free of clothing or limitations on its own plane of life.  The soul’s expression on planes lower than its own requires” garments”, or matter of those planes. Each plane of life would require a garment or sheath through which the soul can function. Clothes, vehicles, bodies, sheaths, or containers, are synonymous with” garments of skin”. Occult Science teaches us that we have seven of these bodies or sheaths.

Reincarnation is one of two cornerstones, along with karma, of Esoteric Science. Reincarnation is the cyclical process whereby the spiritual divinity of an individual is unfolded and eventually expressed in physical form. Physical, moral, and spiritual perfection is the goal of this “cycle of necessity” that all humans participate in. Successive rebirths are needed, as one lifetime is not enough to accomplish the objective of metempsychosis, an ancient term for reincarnation.

The most intelligent minds of the Hindus, Buddhists, Egyptians, Greeks, Chaldeans, Hebrews, Gnostics, Persians, and Essenes, have all taught the truth of reincarnation. The Hindu belief in transmigration, or the soul alternating between human and animal forms during incarnations, is a false teaching. The Ancient Wisdom contradicts this belief, showing that the soul moves progressively forward in its evolution, not retrograding back into lower life forms. To the reincarnation adherent, vicarious atonement has no basis in fact, as karma requires all souls to pay the price for their own salvation, or enlightenment.

The Buddha taught that the cause of repeated reincarnation was ignorance of the senses, wrong desire, and attachment to objects. Soul attunement and it’s resulting spiritual growth, frees us from the dreary cycle of birth, death, and rebirth.

The book- Reincarnation, by E.D. Walker, is an excellent book that examines the cyclical return of souls into physical incarnation.

There’s Still Hope For Us

I was watching BBC News the other day, and was amazed by the raucous behavior exhibited by British Parliament … booing, catcalling, jeering … just plain rude.

Now, I understand that Brexit has become a mess, and many are just fed up and angry at how it’s been handled… but I don’t think speaking loudly and crudely is a way to communicate effectively – it’s just short of bullying, and frankly, says more about the person than the other, and undermines whatever argument they may believe in…

Yes, so much for proper British behavior… I guess good manners is something to embrace only when one chooses… But not to point a finger at them…our own politicians are not much better – from bombastic grandiose statements [lies, actually], to offensive descriptions of refugees as criminals and rapists, to mocking the disabled, and insulting other countries by calling them sh**holes…  I would expect better from those who are meant to be our ‘leaders’…

They’ve forgotten that ‘the business of government is not business… but to serve its people’…

We are shocked when we hear about some Third World dictator that lines his own pockets while his people starve… quick to point a finger and call him ‘thief !’… and yet do not hold our own accountable when money is appropriated for some inane project… that will only benefit those who land the government contract…

Hypocrisy ?…You bet …

But all this is – unfortunately – ‘common news’…it’s been going on for so long that most of us just shrug our shoulders, desensitized through over exposure… So – is this it? Are we facing the decline of our [once great] nation?

Are we, what history so clearly describes as ‘decadent’, and about to face our own downfall …? I don’t think so… at least, not quite yet…

You see, we had a blizzard recently – yep, one of those that piles snow so fast that it buries cars, and threatens the very lives of those who lost power [200,000 people with no electricity…no heat … no way to cook …] Houses that now pretty much become ice-boxes… It took the power company – working hard and overtime – days to fix the problems [my respect to them]… So… why is this important …?

Because in the midst of all this freezing weather I saw neighbors knock on others’ doors, offering shelter to those who had no electricity… sharing food… shoveling snow for those who are older… I even saw people bringing hot coffee to those who worked hard to repair the lost power…

And nowhere – NOWHERE – was there a question of race / color / politics… nowhere was there discrimination or accusation of ‘unworthiness’… nowhere was there a barrier because of language or culture… It was just people… helping people… The way it should be …

Our politicians may have forgotten what it means to be ‘human’ and humane… but we haven’t… So –  take comfort in the Laws of Karma – and Divine Retribution – for all the Holy Books say the same thing: “As you give, so you shall receive”… and yes, there is a ‘Hell’ , and it’s self-created.

I rejoice that people are still good, kind, compassionate, generous human-beings… and yes – there is hope for us … just look around you – that is what’s real, and not the propaganda that’s being spewed…
