ESOTERIC SCIENCE AND THOUGHT FORMATION
by Bruce Johnson

Thought Power
by Annie Besant

Encore Publication: This article was first published in the April 2013 issue of our newsletter. We thank Bruce Johnson for allowing us to share his writings and insights into the ancient mysteries and the occult.

Occultism teaches that thoughts are made of living substance that is molded into various shapes of different colors, and produce effects proportionate to the force generated during the duration of their existence. Genuine clairvoyant observation shows thoughts to be individual or collective energy forms whose size, shape, color, and quality reflect the vibration of the originating energy, whether on mental, astral, or etheric planes.

Each one of us goes through life surrounded by a mass of thought-forms we have created knowingly or unknowingly by our own thinking. A thought not about oneself or others floats in the atmosphere radiating its particular vibration until it is absorbed by a person, combines with a like thought-form, or exhausts its store of energy and disintegrates. Thoughts of self remain in the mental aura of the thinker, as thoughts about another go to that individual who will absorb that thought if they have affinity with it, and reject it if they don’t.

Thought-forms reflect the exact nature of their core vibration. Vague and weak thoughts produce forms of little force, while powerful focused thoughts correspondently create potently energized thought- forms. The character of the thought-form determines its color and clarity. Selfless thoughts create forms with pure clear pure colors, in contrast to selfish thoughts which always have a dull quality combined with dark or dingy colors.

Clear pink and rose colored thought-forms indicate love and affection. Shades of blue signify religious feeling and devotion, while light yellow colors show unselfish use of intellectual power. The deep orange color indicates pride or ambition, with light green corresponding to sympathy, and shades of violet indicating devotion plus affection.

Negative thought-forms are also recognized by their colors. Black clouds and streaks in a thought-form show hatred and malice. Dull brown/gray colors depict selfishness, with the emotion of fear shown as a pale grey color. Anger shows as a dirty scarlet/ red, while deceit is shown by an unattractive greenish/grey. Brownish- green thought-forms flecked with scarlet indicate jealousy.

Karmic law holds each individual responsible for the thoughts they have created in all lifetimes, behooving us all to take greater care and control over our daily thoughts.

Thought-Forms by Annie Besant and C. W. Leadbeater is a great book for further study about the nature of thoughts and their energies.

PSYCHIC DEVELOPMENT…CURSE OR BLESSING!?!
by Mario C. Veo

There is a deep desire to develop… to grow and expand, to seek out more Knowledge, more Wisdom, to reveal the great mysteries, and finally understand what Life and Creation is all about. Do we have past lives… is there life after death… can we predict the future… and what about all those Psychic and even Magical Gifts… can we truly speak with Angels and Guides or be visited by great Ascended Masters… and my favorite question: “and why would they want to do that…” ? The simple answer to all this is a resounding Yes!

Yes, we can do all this… Yes, Life and Creation is a lot more wonderful – and complex – than we’ve ever thought it could be… Yes, there are many multiple dimension, many Celestial Beings… and, best of all, all those great Masters were just like you and I when they first started… So, hey, if they can do it, then so can we… all it takes is a true desire to grow and evolve… a commitment to the work … and a lot of safe instructions. For all that there is out there, there are many things that either lack the proper foundation [so they are weak at best, or downright dangerous]… or too often are made up junk, designed to use and abuse you… and ultimately cause your own destruction… Why would anyone do this…?

Easy – if you have the potential – and the real desire – to grow, expand your Consciousness, quicken your Spiritual Evolution, and aim to become a master… well then, you are a threat to the Dark Brotherhood … so it’s easiest to block you now before you become too knowledgeable. But don’t let all this worry you too much – you know what they say:- “If you make much noise you will attract much attention…” and not just from those that would oppose you, but also from those who will help, guide, and shelter you.

…there’s just one little thing, which – well – may actually turn out to be a little Big Thing… it’s called Free Will, specifically your Free Will… You have to decide – not only through your passion, determination and enthusiasm – but also through your careful examination and discretion – and choose the correct Path for you … as I’ve said, there’s a lot of junk info out there [Fake News indeed !!] So, look deep within you… find out why you would want to do this… and seek out the Lineage you truly belong to… What’s this, you say ?

Ok, basic Development 1-0-1 … if someone tells you to ‘meditate’ there are literally hundreds of different styles and techniques of Meditation… If you know which ones resonate best with you, then you progress quickly… if not you simply become more and more frustrated, negative, angry and even resentful.[and by the ones that are best for you I do not mean the ‘easiest’, rather the ones that truly have an effect on your Inner Light and Consciousness … and this could be ones that truly make you think, and not just offer ‘a glamorous phenomena’] So, now it’s all up to you [remember ‘Free Will’… use it consciously]… and good luck… Oh, if you should screw up, don’t worry too much, that’s what Karma is for… after all you have plenty of future incarnations to get it right … [joke, you really don’t have that much time left to get it right – we are in the Quickening, if you can tell…]

For those of you who are like me [‘give me more info !!] this month’s classes are dedicated to Psychic Development… in all it many wondrous forms…

PLANETS AND POSSIBILITIES:
A LOOK AT THE ASTROLOGY OF MAY 2018
by Sally Shotwell

As we continue our journey through Spring, the Sun (our consciousness) is in earthy, stable Taurus, sharing the creative energies of this Nature-oriented sign.  It is ruled by lovely Venus, Goddess of Beauty, Love and Money, who motivates us to enjoy the surroundings which offer us a sense of security and pleasure.  We are serious about remaining in our comfort zone and take a dim view of being dislodged from it. However, this month we all encounter a development which challenges us to relinquish our investment in the status quo.  This event is revolutionary Uranus entering the sign of The Bull May 15 and we’re already feeling the impact of his electric influence, both personally and globally.  This initially is a very awkward pairing since The Great Awakener introduces changes to outmoded aspects of our lives in startling ways which can be shocking to our system.  We can take heart knowing that this leads to innovative developments in our lives and, in the meantime, count on other aspects in the cosmos to keep us grounded during all the excitement.
We look to the the solid, support that planets in the earth signs offer us and right now vital Mars, persevering Saturn and transformative Pluto are all in responsible Capricorn. Planets in water signs supply emotional and intuitive input, keeping us in touch with our inner world and with those around us.  Compassionate Neptune is in transformative Pisces while expansive Jupiter is in relentless Scorpio and both are available to us, as needed.  Are we taking advantage of the resources available to us  to help us  cope with uncertainties?  It’s helpful to expose ourselves to the wisdom of others who have had to navigate through rough waters themselves.
That said, let’s now look at the specifics and welcome the Sun and Neptune fraternizing May 6, opening us up to indulge in sensual and artistic endeavors. It’s an invitation to engage our senses and further bond with loved ones.
May 7 Mercury (communication)  in fiery Aries and Pluto influence each other in a way that  may lead to oppressive thoughts and secrets.  Also, Venus is in the hot seat as Neptune spins illusions which lead to questionable infatuation or misguided charitable efforts.   We have better ways to direct our attention.
May 8 the Sun and Jupiter support our ambitions as we remain conscious of how we commit our resources (Taurus) and  the 11h the Sun furthers our efforts as he joins forces with powerful Pluto add gravitas to our plans.  Are we clear about them?
May 13 Mercury enters Taurus where he becomes concerned with our natural environment and helps us understand the role we play in honoring Nature.  Building up to this, however, he spends his last days in fiery Aries first picking a fight with feisty Mars, May 12, then moving on to a love fest  the 13th with Uranus where they stimulate each other cooking up  futuristic
visions and, possibly,  sudden changes.  This is preparing us for the very charged New Moon the 15th.
This Taurus New Moon (new beginnings)  immediately precedes the entrance of  unpredictable Uranus himself  into practical Taurus  as assertive Mars exits the sign lighten up in airy, communicative Gemini. This New Moon reminds us to remain conscious of what our values contribute to our quality of life. The Sabian Symbol states “The cultivation of natural energies for collective use and recreation.”   The “positive and impressive results of man’s collective endeavor to live in peace and to enjoy moments of relaxation” must not be ignored as we incorporate  spectacular innovations into all our lives.  Are we finding time for amusement for its own sake?
May 19 charming Venus enters watery, sensitive  Cancer and our thoughts and feelings tend to be directed to nurturing those close to us.  This sign is associated with The Mother which is a complex symbol and let’s make sure our ministering attentions are welcome.  Venus quickly associates with newly ensconced, rebellious Uranus and their interaction hold the promise  leading us into a liberating exchange.  Are we ready to enlarge our personal experiences?
May 20 the Sun enters Gemini and our thoughts  take flight in many interesting directions since this sign is ruled by mental Mercury and its symbol is The Twins, one mortal and one immortal.  This, of course, brings up the conundrum of duality and  our attention is captivated by so much information available. The 22nd Mercury, himself, gets caught up with intuitive Neptune and expansive Jupiter and our minds may turn to matters related to our belief systems. The 23rd the Sun and Mars build up our confidence and infuse us with the energy we need to carry out  important ventures.  May 25 Jupiter and Neptune embrace each other and seed a sense of optimism and kindness which we can share – they represent the big picture.  Mercury and Pluto further support us digging deep to get to the root of our concern and we may find treasures!
May 29 the Full Moon (culmination) is in fiery, idealistic Sagittarius, opposite Sun in Gemini, and it’s message is “A mother leads her small chid step by step up a steep stairway:  The need  in any situation to assist the less evolved in their management of the problems society requires its members to solve.” Here we can tap into the empathy of Venus and Neptune in Cancer and Pisces to offer support where we find a need. In turn, we should be open to the kindness of others.  It’s great we have each other!
Blessings!

A TALE OF GODS AND GODDESSES
by Mario C. Veo

This happened so long ago that we – the poor shadows that survived – no longer have true knowledge, but have buried its truth behind distorted myths and legends… but beware, reader, what you’re about to hear is indeed Truth… It was a great time, when the Gods walked among men and blessed them with great Powers… life was filled with marvels and wonder.

Many were those favored by the Gods… No, not as servants but simple acolytes – they did ‘serve’ but as followers, as people who have chosen the Path blessed by their patron Gods – they were the warriors, mighty in battle, or great artisans, who forged powerful weapons, and others – of a more gentle nature – became healers, or harvested the bounty of Nature; some even worked with new-found ideas, crazy inventors and philosophers who argued about such little things that would make your poor head turn… but that’s what ale was for… so you could always retire to be among the story-tellers, and enjoy many a fantastic tale of valor while quenching your thirst… and if a God or Goddess would wonder by, then the tales they would tell would leave you starry-eyed, and longing for closer union.

And such a union was granted to those who were deemed worthy… special people who sought to be as close to the Gods as possible – those who learned how to rule over the Elements called themselves magicians, others who simply wanted to sit at the feet of Higher Beings preferred to call themselves mystics… and still more desired to know the greatest of mysteries – the ones of Creation and Dissolution – of rendering the Veil cast by Death, seeking even those Knowledges which have been forbidden… they called themselves sorcerers… and because of their arrogance  Darkness began to creep into our world…

But it was our own foolishness which opened the door to the Great Downfall … too late we learned that ‘Power corrupts’… few truly understood that ‘With great Power comes great responsibilities’, preferring to believe that ‘Power’ meant that they were better than others, that they could – indeed they thought it was their ‘Right’ – to rule over others… You see, they foolishly thought they were better than the rest of us…

And so it started… what was once a Utopian land soon became fraught with dissent, Man thought to enslave others, even as this spurred resistance and even revolt… as Power fought against Power , destruction gleefully followed, and despair filled the hearts of peaceful men… So, as any good follower would, they asked their patron Gods for help, for aid and relief  from such barbaric, power-mad individuals [we could no longer even bear to call them ‘men’ for they were no longer human…]

And what is a good God to do, but respond to the cries of his followers… and so Mother Earth revolted, casting fires of destruction… mighty winds tore up whole civilizations, thunder flared again and again trying to smite these unnatural beings… but, alas, they had their own Gods… and so the fight spread…

Now God fought against God, mighty Goddesses enter the fray and with wrath in their hearts and fury in their eyes they rent apart even the last one alive … such a mighty battle… such foolish beginning … such pitiful ego of men who thought themselves ‘superior’… Ha ! where are your powers now… where is your wealth, your subterfuge, your entitled ego … See the Darkness you’ve invited into what once was Utopia… it’s waiting for you … all of you who sought to know the Great Mysteries, the Gateway is now open , greedily waiting to embrace such fools that thought naught of what they cast aside so readily … and for what …? Did you really think you were greater and better than the Gods … ?

And these Great Ones… where are they now… ? Disgusted by their own creations, they moved on… trying to figure out why this Gift, which they called Free Will, went so awry… Yes, they all went away, trying to once again make peace among themselves… and having learned Man’s lesson well, will now only create the simplest of Nature’s Forms… no longer ‘sentient’… just joyful Nature…

And that now leaves us… wretched shadows of what once was great, and pure, and glorious… no longer… just shadows of a broken Race… so pay attention, you who are reading this, and do not allow the vile to grow in your heart or land… hear this tale and pay heed, lest you too shall fall for others’ Ego… Your Duty is clear…

TWO GYMNASIUMS
by Bob Romero

Scott Gym – In April 2014, I was in Trinidad Colorado to give the acceptance speech at a banquet in Scott Gymnasium, for my father’s induction into the Trinidad State Junior College Educational Foundation Hall of Fame, almost 27 years after he had passed away. My dad had worked at the college for 36 years. While my father did not go to church often, I thought that he followed the principles of Jesus Christ more than anyone else I knew, through his extraordinary acts of kindness. Now more than 30 years later, I’m still hearing stories about what he did for people, although he never mentioned them to me. When he died, my family started a scholarship in his name at TSJC. We were able to raise enough money so that with the interest made on the contributions, there was enough to pay for tuition for a qualified student for a year. Then the foundation got a matching National Education Association grant for a total of a million dollars, and then quadrupled that total, due to very wise investments. Now there are over 80 scholarships offered annually, some of which like my father’s, offer full tuition.

Over the years, my father did everything from putting the roof on the administration building, installing new hardwood gym floors, mowing the lawns, shoveling sidewalks, firing up boilers to warm classrooms, being security for football and basketball games, painting classrooms, and cleaning classrooms and offices. So how was I able to get someone from the maintenance crew into the Educational Hall of Fame? I cheated, or at least I felt like I did. I used the eulogy that Roy Boyd gave at his funeral. Mr. Boyd was the Business Manager and Vice President of Buildings and Grounds, and a founding member of the TSJC Educational Foundation. He was also acting president for a year, and most importantly, he was my dad’s best friend. The eulogy that he gave was so inspiring, that we asked him for a copy. He talked about how he would lend my father to schools and businesses to teach their employees, or help them solve a custodial problem. He also mentioned how dependable my dad was, and was a real Rock of Gibraltar, and that the employees mispronounced his name as “Fiddle”, instead of Fidel, as an easy shorthand expression of love. Mr. Boyd would sometimes catch my dad giving a pep talk to discouraged students. Mr. Boyd had recently passed away, but I figured how could the board go against the wishes of a founding member.

In my letter for dad’s nomination to the board, I relayed the story of when the head football coach died of a heart attack, my dad would get up an hour earlier every morning, to start a fire in the furnace in the basement of the coach’s home. That way the house would be nice and warm when the children got ready for school. In the 40’s, coal furnaces were used to heat homes by starting a fire with paper and wood, and then putting coal on the fire in order to last through the day, or through the night. The only way I found out about this was because one the children came back 40 years later, to thank my dad, and to work in the hospital as a nurse. She was there in the hospital to help him during his last days.

The secretary for many of the college’s presidents also submitted a letter of support. She stated that there was a poor young student who commuted 70 miles every day from Kim, Colorado to Trinidad. My dad let him stay in the gym overnight because of severe snowstorms. My dad also helped him with money for food. Twenty years later that student came back as president of the junior college, and he made sure that everyone knew what dad had done for him.

I was somewhat nervous about giving the acceptance speech, because unlike giving a technical paper, this was very emotional for me, and I would not be able to finish the speech during my rehearsals. As I sat there at the banquet table, and looked around the gym, a ton of memories flooded my brain. I loved being in that gym from the time that I was little, to the time I left Trinidad. I watched many great high school and college basketball games there. My dad would sometimes let me in the gym to practice my shooting and dribbling skills. And like every young basketball player, I would visualize sinking the winning basket. I saw my future brother-in-law, and then my brother, box there as a fundraiser for the high school. I saw Spencer Haywood play basketball for the college, before going on to an NBA hall of fame career. And I finally got to realize my dream of playing in the TSJC invitational basketball tournaments in both junior high and high school. While attending college there, I got to go to many student-sponsored convocations about current events, like hearing Dick Gregory the black comedian and activist, speak about civil rights and the Vietnam War. One of my favorite concerts in January 1970 was seeing Martha Reeves and the Vandellas perform to a packed gym, and belt out one of my all time favorite Motown hits, “Heat Wave”.

When I went to podium and began to speak, I noticed that the words flowed out smoothly. I had to do my best, because this was about my dad. I mentioned how important the college was to him as it was not just his job, but also his life. I talked about his dedication to the school, and how he also helped students. I went on about how many times after I moved to Denver, I would meet someone who attended TSJC and when I mentioned that I was the son of Fidel Romero, they would say, “Oh yeah, I know Fidel. How’s he doing?” He didn’t teach any classes, but he taught many students about life, including me. I continued on how both he and my mother didn’t have the opportunity to go to college, but they realized the importance of an education which they instilled in us, and that the school serves as a portal for the students to accomplish their dreams. The scholarship in his name continues his legacy of helping people, and especially students, because they are our future. When I sat down, and looked at the pictures of my dad flashing on a big screen, I realized that this was my most memorable moment in that gym, because this was all about my dad. I love you, Dad.

Sebastiani Gym – In November of 2016, I was in Trinidad for my mom’s funeral. There was an earthquake in 2011 that caused damage to Holy Trinity Church where my mom attended mass. A restoration project closed the church, and a makeshift church was created in the school gymnasium where I went to high school. Trinidad Catholic High School had been closed for several years, and so the Gym was available until the Church was restored. At first, I was disappointed that the Church wasn’t available, because my mom not only went to church there, but she would also light candles and spent a lot of time praying in the church.

I was asked by my family to give the eulogy, which I knew would be tough. As I sat in the folding chair waiting to speak, I looked around the gym and the memories poured in. This was a gym that I also loved being in, because I spent so many hours from sixth grade through twelfth grade practicing and playing basketball, and I enjoyed every minute. There were the high school dances, church bazaars, spaghetti dinners, and high school graduation. There was a concert that I especially remembered in April 1970, which featured Glen Yarbrough as he sang one my favorite folk songs from the 60’s, “Baby the Rain Must Fall”. He made fun of the smallness of Trinidad by saying that he went to “the” library and checked out “the” book.

When I went to the pulpit and began to speak, I noticed that the words flowed out smoothly. I had to do my best, because this was about my mom. The following two paragraphs are parts from the eulogy in which I described what an amazing woman she was.

Her father passed away when she was 8. Because of that, she did backbreaking work in the beet fields as a child along with her older brother, in the late 1920’s, and in the early 1930’s, to help support the family. This was during the Great Depression and at that time, there was no government help.  Somehow she and her family survived. That toughness would define her life. She lost her husband in the war, and had become a widow with three children when she was 27. She was devoted to her kids, and she provided the love and discipline necessary to raise them with good morals and ethics. Several years later, she met my dad and I became the “ours” of “yours, mine, and ours” as dad was a widower with three kids. I was the baby of both families, and the little half brother to all of them, although I never heard the word, “half”. My mother and father greatly loved and respected each other, as she thought that he was kindest, gentlest, and nicest man that she had ever met, and he worshiped the ground that she walked on.

She had a very strong will. She gave up smoking by putting a pack of cigarettes on the windowsill and each day she would tell it, “You don’t boss me!” It took two weeks. When my dad died, she bought a car and taught herself to drive. She lived in her house by herself for many years, and was never afraid. When we would go out to eat or go downtown or go to Wal-Mart, we would always meet someone who knew her. They would hug her and many times they would tell me “I just love your mother”. Her friend of 93 years, Lena, came to visit mom in the nursing home. Mom was 99, and Lena was 100, and so they both couldn’t hear very well, even with hearing aids. So Lena’s son and I used whiteboards so that they could communicate. Mom wrote, “You are my best friend.” And Lena wrote back, “I love you Lucy”.  Mom used to say that she was not a very social person, but the fact of the matter was, that she was the life of the party. She took it upon herself to entertain everyone. When I pushed her in her wheelchair down the halls, many of the staff and residents would say “Hi Lucy!”  grab her hand, or touch her shoulder. When someone went by, without acknowledging her, mom would tell me in Spanish that some people are friendly, and some are not. Then she would tell me something else in Spanish, which I was glad that it was in Spanish, so that no one knew what she was saying. She had her little sayings that she said a lot, but she still made us laugh every time. Some of the sayings were in Spanish, and there are some that I can’t say in Church. When mom went into hospice care, I could not believe the number of people that came by to see her besides family. There were quite a few residents and a lot of the staff. Many of them were not directly involved in mom’s care, but they all knew her. They asked me if they could come in and see mom and tell her goodbye. People, who were total strangers just a few months earlier, cried with me and told mom that they loved her.

When I sat down, I realized that this was my most memorable moment in that gym, because this was all about my mom. I love you, Mom. Even though she was feisty, and quite a character, the reason so many people loved my mom, is because she took a genuine interest in people, and made them feel special about themselves. You could hear it in the glee in her voice, and see it in the smile on her face, when she greeted people that she knew.

It was not a coincidence, or even a twist of fate, that these two events took place in the two gymnasiums that I cherished so much, growing up in Trinidad. It was instead, a very special gift from Spirit, that I was able to give homage to the two people that influenced me the most, in my two most favorite venues in Trinidad. My mom and dad taught me how to treat people, not just by what they said, but also by their example.

LIVING THE I CHING AS A LIFESTYLE – ANCIENT WISDOM GUIDING OUR MODERN LIVES with Mo Abdelbaki
Monday, May 7 and 14, 2018     7:00 to 9:00 pm     $25 each class
The I Ching is the oldest form of divination in the world, but it is much more than an oracle. The I Ching is also a book of life and a code of  right action that can change your life for the better, without having to rely upon dogma, or even really work at it.
This two week class will teach you how to absorb the I Ching as a way of thinking and interacting with the world and yourself. Although we will discuss how to consult with the I Ching, the emphasis will be on understanding how to take the book, and its wisdom, into your life on a daily basis, thus giving you the ability to be calmer, make better decisions and trust in the ability of your fate to guide you.
After 50 years of working with the I Ching, Mo realized that the reason things go smoothly in his life is because he lives and acts by the lessons put forth in this ancient book of reason. This wasn’t a studied attempt. It was a simple realization of the truth as put forth in this monumental work. The truth, once realized, can never be unlearned, nor denied. The power of learning these lessons cannot be underestimated.
You, too, can live a better, happier, more secure life. This class will help you in ways that you will appreciate for the rest of your days. Call 303-758-9113 to register.
