THE MYSTERIOUS SIDE OF BOTANY

The ancients knew many secrets about plants and vegetation that have yet to be discovered by modern science. The mystical properties and medicinal uses of plants were taught by the great alchemist and pioneer physician Paracelsus. His study of plant magnetism can lead us to knowledge about the yet unrevealed therapeutic value of many plants.
The presence of magnetism in plants is the basis for the sympathy or antipathy they show to other plants and humans. Plants demonstrate affinity or attraction to some magnetic fields, and antipathy or repulsion to other ones. The individuals said to have a” green thumb” are people with a strong attunement to nature’s flora. Whether potatoes, roses, or bonsai trees, love and rapport with the plant is the common denominator of the successful horticulturist. Luther Burbank communicated with plants in his pioneering studies, and participated in experiments requiring mutual cooperation between him and the plants.
Experiments by Father Kircher in the 17th century, showed the existence of subtle magnetic attraction and repulsion between different plants. In a series of tests involving many different plants, a certain vine showed a resistance to a cabbage, and a marked attraction for an olive tree. A ranunculus showed a type of affinity for the water-lily, and antipathy toward the fig. Sympathetic or non- sympathetic magnetic fields can be seen to be the source of this affinity or opposition between plants.
Some plants demonstrate magnetic attraction by their responses to the sun and moon. The acacia and Egyptian lotus open their petals at the sun’s rising and close them at sunset. The nightshade reacts similarly to the rising and setting of the moon, even in fog. Here we see an interaction between the lesser magnetic fields of the plants and the greater magnetic fields of the planets. Ancient astrology linked through magnetic affinity, different plants and herbs to the astrological signs. In past times and today, a skilled physician/ medical astrologer with esoteric knowledge of the plant kingdom, like Paracelsus, could create beneficial teas and potions custom-made for the unique astrological magnetism of any individual.
One special contribution the Plant Kingdom brings to Earth, is to modify and transmit vital pranic force to other forms of life on our planet, including human life.
The Denver Botanical Gardens is a great place to see many beautiful plants and flowers. The book titled Herbal Elixirs Of Life, by Raymond Bernard, examines the beneficial properties of various plants.

THE OTHER TALE OF THE UGLY DUCKLING…REVISITED

It all started in a small town, one just like many others, where neighbor knows neighbor, prices are fair, and all are good, law abiding people … for they all know their place. In such a town was born young Thomas, apparently a well adjusted child, over all well behaved even if a little too curious, asking too many questions… and even daring to pester the local pastor with questions that no young boy had the right to ask… [and if his father was a touch too strict, and at times had to spank the boy… well, it was for his own good now, wasn’t it… after all, if the boy was not quite so boisterous then he wouldn’t need to be punished, now would he ?!]
And so in this idyllic little town the young boy grew up into a young man, and gave up his sassiness, learned how to be respectful of his wiser elders, learnt his place, he did. “Smart”, many said “and even handsome” others murmured… “So, let’s make him a deal… Let’s offer him a position in our Bank… after all, he’s one of us, and we need a ‘good’ manager”
And so the elders approached young Thomas with what was obviously a sweet deal, “Tommy-boy you look well… Certainly grew up out of your rambunctious nature… Have come to appreciate the good life we all have here… Want you to take your place in our community… Make us proud of you, now”
They all talked at once, so overwhelming they were that ‘Tommy-boy’ agreed without really knowing what it was all about… The following Monday he found himself bright and early being ushered into his new office [dressed in his best collar and tie, he did… and he so impressed everyone, that the elders all congratulated themselves on their good judgment… and even the young female tellers spruced themselves up, and shyly introduced themselves]
And so young Thomas-Thom-Tommy-boy found himself having to learn what the bank was all about… and what better way then to review past transactions… y’know, who lent money to whom, who defaulted on their payments, who lost their land… who bought them out at a profit… y’know, just normal bank business. Well now, young Thomas considered himself a man of integrity, a man who really wanted to live the good and proper life of a God-fearing man… so he studied deeper… and deeper… and found that only a few families were allowed to grow rich and prosperous, only a few families ruled the town, only a few families were untouched by grief and famine…and look’it here, they owned the bank… and yes, they were the wise elders… interesting…
So now, what’s a young man to do… was he certain of his findings… or was he just seeing coincidences where no fault truly lies… did he really think that he, in his ever so short a career, had enough information to even know what he was looking at, and – the greatest of all questions – was it really his place to do anything about it.
And so young Thomas-Thom-Tommy-boy sat for many a day, ruminating, thinking, considering his options… and even looking back to his youth, at the times when he was so certain that he dared question…. The day came for the quarterly report, and he decided that he would simply present the information, and ask for clarity… and… see what would happen…. This time the meeting was not held in the bank’s conference room…no, apparently this was a special occasion, and so it was to be held in the wealthiest mansion in town, and for a proper dinner too…
So, dressed in his best attire, the young man presented himself at the proper time… and was greeted by the daughters of the elders… who quite demurely led him into the parlor, where, chaperoned by their mothers, proceeded to ask him his opinion on family, and marriage, and children… and if he thought that he would be a good provider… and asked if his position in the bank would be enough… or if he would consider investing in some properties that may come available…
The girls were all quite pretty, and well mannered too… they knew just how to treat a man, a man who had so much potential, so much to offer to a proper wife… his whole life opened before him… riches and respect in the community… or… who knows what… and at that point he knew exactly what the right thing to do was… “May I introduce you to our new mayor, the Honorable Thomas Truss, and his lovely wife, Grace…”

MIRACLES & MANIFESTATION THROUGH ENCOURAGEMENT

Most of us have had someone who inspired us to pursue our goals and dreams, whether it was a relative, a teacher, a coach, or a boss. For me, it was my Algebra teacher, who took me aside after the first semester, and asked me to meet him after school. He saw the enthusiasm and skill that I had for mathematics. He said that he didn’t want me to be held back by the rest of the class, and that we could meet 30 minutes each day after school. That way, I could make sure that I finished the textbook by the end of the year. His inspiration gave me the confidence to pursue a career in mathematics and overcome any obstacles or discouragement by other teachers or other individuals. My brother who taught school for 35 years, once showed me shoeboxes full of letters from former students, thanking him for making a difference in their lives.
There are also those who try to use a negative approach to get us to do what they want us to do. My pastor said in one of his homilies, that maybe we spend too much time on correction versus encouragement. I think that sometimes priests and ministers focus too much on avoiding eternal damnation, versus finding the joy of heaven. I had a director and a supervisor who had different management styles. The director, who always complimented us whenever we did good work, was considered a mentor. She still had high levels of expectations, but we were happy to go above and beyond them for her. The supervisor on the other hand, was mean, and severely reprimanded anyone who didn’t produce the work exactly as she wanted. We referred to her as the tormentor. Most employees would not do anything above the minimum level of what she wanted.
The people, who encourage us, don’t do so for their own self-interest, or their own ego. They do so, because they feel that it is the right thing to do. They motivate us to have the desire necessary for us to rise to a mush higher level of achievement than we ever thought possible. If we take a step back, and look at what we were before the encouragement, compared to afterwards, it would seem like a miracle. Yet they are not the ones who performed the miracle, we did. They got us to go deep within ourselves to produce fantastic results.
Now lets take this notion to a higher level, a higher level of consciousness, if you will. There are lots and lots and lots of books at the Shining Lotus on self-improvement, and state that the answers we seek, are within us. And there are teachers at the Shining Lotus, who teach us on how to go inside of ourselves, and manifest miraculous healing and riches, which are way beyond our wildest dreams. The only limits are the limits that we place on ourselves. They teach us different metaphysical techniques that not only get us to produce health and abundance, but also help us on our spiritual path. These methods are only for the highest good, truth, wisdom, and light. The teachers have all of this wonderful knowledge and are more than willing to share it with us. Their encouragement will help us lift ourselves much closer to Spirit, and make this world a much better place. If enough of us take advantage of these wonderful opportunities, then the lyrics in the song “Crystal Blue Persuasion“ by Tommy James and the Shondells will come true.

LIFE – SUCCESS, FAILURE, OR JUST BLAH…YOU CHOOSE

One of my deepest investigations has been on ‘Power and Self-Empowerment’… and conversely Who and What takes it all away. In my time as a Spiritual Counselor, I have met many great and wonderful people who have been totally oblivious of their gifts and abilities, and are blindly choosing to live a very mediocre Life… and what really pushes my buttons is when I see them being manipulated into submission, to meekly accept that ‘this’ is really the best that they can achieve, that this blah life is all they deserve… I see this everywhere – the way some managers speak to their employees, petty politicians and their empty promises – while really pandering to special interests, the still active prejudice between races / religious beliefs / gender status, the petty use of News to slander / offend / belittle, the blind dismissal of western doctors to even the most valuable of complementary medicines…
Everywhere people are bombarded by misinformation-touted-as-Truth, they are browbeaten by bullies, incited to resist even the most beneficial of changes by hidden special interest groups, are being fooled by propaganda couched as righteous zeal… and – worst of all – it even happens in personal relationships. Disempowerment is easy to achieve:- all you have to do is hurt / offend / belittle someone often enough until they break… or praise and kiss their a** until they are too full of themselves, and now will be your puppet, addicted to their own inflated Ego.
Yes, it really is that easy to manipulate someone… the difficult part starts when you try to heal them, to free them from these offensive chains, to awaken them to their own true self… especially when their self-image is too confused to recognize all of their good qualities… And that is exactly where we all are in our current political chaos – we live in a time of Conflict and Revelation… all that is wrong / dark / corrupt… all that is fueled by greed / fear / violence / exploitation… all will be revealed so that it can be cleansed and healed, so that once again harmony, balance, respect, and appreciation may rule.
And here’s the Key – it all starts within you… Once you realize that you have to live as Truth, behave honorably, claim joyful and loving relationships… then all in your Life will change to reflect the Change that you have become… and if we all do this, then society will change, and these negative forces will no longer be dominant.
As many wise ones have said: “Be the change you want to see in the world” So how do we achieve all this, how do we start…? Easy – stop pandering to the external influences, take stock of who you are, and what would make you happy / fulfilled / successful, disengage from people and situations that have hurt or belittled you, feed you inner gifts and abilities, and use these to guide your Life to success…

PLANETS & POSSIBILITIES: A LOOK AT THE ASTROLOGY OF JUNE 2018

The month begins with the Sun (our consciousness) and Mercury (our thought processes) in communicative Gemini. The Messenger of the Gods is relishing the time he is spending in his home sign since he’s using it to instill in us a thirst to accumulate all kinds of information which we can then share with others. The airy, dualistic sign of The Twins is noted to embrace diverse perceptions and we shouldn’t be surprised if we find ourselves entertaining seemly contradictory ideas to follow through on. They enlarge our purview, but let’s not jump to any defined conclusions while our minds are floating in the clouds . We’re helped in grounding our thoughts because three formidable planets are traveling retrograde at this time and the theme of all of their messages for us is to take time for reflection and refining our current circumstances in preparation for future success. Although retrogrades(Rx) may be annoying, they give us the breathing room we need to integrate the wisdom inherent in their presence. We’re looking at expansive Jupiter Rx in intense Scorpio until 7/10 while serious Saturn and relentless Pluto are both Rx in formidable Capricorn until 9/7 and 9/20 respectively. During this tumultuous time, are we allowing ourselves the luxury of retreating into stillness?
June 1 assertive Mars, in intellectual Aquarius, communes with mental Mercury and our ideas are clever and productive. This lifts our mood as we’re asked to enter into more sensitive territory when lovely Venus, in watery, nurturing Cancer, makes an optimistic connection with bountiful Jupiter in watery, Scorpio, guiding us to commingle our feelings with our abstract motivations. June 2 idealistic Neptune, in watery, transcendent Pisces enters the scene luring us to embrace the emotional realm and reach out to others lovingly. Let’s just remember that dealing with Neptune can be misleading! The Goddess of Love confronts Pluto the 5th and let’s be prepared to observe volatile behavior surface around us.
June 5 the Sun and Mercury meet up and the mental combustion can generate great ideas and lively conversations but we may end up feeling edgy. The 6th there’s a different issue when Mercury squares off with Neptune who is notorious for dissolving everything around him, in this instance our thoughts and focus. Let’s just weather this temporary inconvenience. The 7th the Sun is confused by Neptune but this as an opportunity to commune with our imagination and see where it takes us.
June 12 Mercury enters watery, nurturing Cancer where he shifts from a cerebral orientation to address the more personal considerations which dominate our every day lives. This is the sign of home and family (which may be very inclusive) and our thoughts may now center on security and memories from the past. The 13th he has a rendezvous with innovative Uranus who has recently arrived in earthy Taurus, a sign whose values are closely aligned with the sign of The Mother. Uranus is known to be impetuous but contributes his clever take on things and introduces “progressive” solutions to increase our understanding of the changes that are taking place. Where there’s inertia, he’s helping us release it.
This leads us to the June 13 New Moon (new beginnings) in Gemini reminding us of the power of thought and how we benefit from it. The Sabian Symbol states “Three fledglings in a nest high in a tree: the growth of spiritually creative processes in an at least relatively integrated mind.” The birds symbolize the “higher, free aspects of the mind” accessed by harmonizing our mental, physical and spiritual drives in order to become more conscious beings. When we become engulfed in information overload, do we pause to sort through the material and cull some of it?
Also June 13, Venus, Goddess of Love, Beauty and Money, enters fiery,exuberant Leo and she steps onto the stage to the applause of her many admirers. Fun is associated with this sign and we’re supposed to get in the spirit of the moment, take advantage of promising invitations and issue our own to others. The 14th she and Uranus encounter each other and sparks fly due to their free spiritedness. If we’re lured by the glamour of this edginess, let’s just remember that future commitments aren’t in the cards. The 14th Mercury and Saturn don’t see eye to eye causing a limited way of viewing things and instead of becoming morose, let’s use this time tackling something that needs to be organized.
June 18 dreamy Neptune stations retrograde in mystical Pisces (until 11/25) and our imagination flourishes internally. We may find daydreaming easier than focusing on the mundane.
June 19 Mercury and Jupiter in Cancer and Scorpio connect and share with us a sensitive and intuitive approach to knowledge. We, in turn, spread this caring understanding to others, be it in our typical interactions with them or through more formal channels. The 20th Mercury now meets with Neptune and our imaginations and artistic influences continue to communicate and a peaceful place within us adds to the overall ambience around us.
June 20 is the SUMMER SOLSTICE, it is the longest day of the year in the northern hemisphere and has been revered as a sacred time for thousand of years. The Sun is now in Cancer and her association with the Great Mother and the Moon inspire awe and a sense of mystery, as well as trepidation. In our personal lives we experience this sign as the symbol of our home and a place of safety (hopefully) and our attention is focused on nurturing those we care about. The 21 Venus and Mars are at odds and tempers flare which isn’t cozy but if we don’t take personally what’s going on around us, we’re O.K.
June 23 the Sun and Uranus get together in mutual admiration and we benefit by feeling free to express ourselves with others as we welcome their innovation ideas and observations. These can be followed up on later but, in the meantime, Mercury and Pluto are not playing well together and this is not the time for us to share our hopes, dreams or ANY information since Pluto in a bad mood can be vindictive.
June 25 Venus and Jupiter cross paths and this could lead to an over-the-top celebration since she’s still in theatrical Leo and Jupiter can be extravagant. It’s fun to see such high spirits in action but let’s be more observers than participants. This doesn’t mean that we should curtail meaningful new relationships, though!
June 26 Mars (our vitality) in airy, brilliant Aquarius turns retrograde until 8/27 and our personal energy is redirecting itself, building itself up internally. We need to pay attention to how we are expressing our desires and frustrations and be aware if we’re releasing them as they arise. Are we being physically active or doing some practice to defuse stress?
June 27 is the Full Moon (culmination) in Capricorn and besides being opposite the Cancer Sun, Uranus and Saturn are also in the act. An emphasis is being placed on the tension we may face between our emotional security and our role in the world. This is an issue we all face, along with many others, and frequently seek guidance to help us understand how to cope. The Symbol is “A veiled prophet speaks, seized by the power of God: The ability to act as a mouthpiece for the revelation of a transcendent will and truth determining future action.” This expresses the means our ancestors employed , believing tribal gods to manifest “Life” within the earth’s biosphere…that Power operates in our days as well, but in ways different because of the individualization and intellectualization of modern man’s consciousness.” When we consult with truly gifted individuals “the future interacts with the present to release it from the inertial power of the past.” ‘Inertial’ is the key word here.
June 29 Mercury enters Leo whose ruler is the Sun and we’re all being encouraged to shine. Our outlook turns from nesting to going out in the world and participating in the joy the world wants to share with us. The 30th we may have to pend in making plans to venture forth when Uranus comes on the scene and what’s established is abruptly turned topsy-turvey.
It’s been years now that we’ve been challenged to grow more and more flexible as dynamic forces have been at play transforming our lives and the world around us. We’ve come such a long way and think how we’ve grown!
