These are challenging times that often test our strength of character. It reminds us to be more compassionate in the face of difficulties. As we recognize our inherent oneness with one another, we can shift towards a higher heart-centered resonance and improve our own life conditions even more. How we serve and share our innate gifts with others, impacts the evolutionary growth for all humanity.

The basic theme for the month of May emphasizes a heightened awareness of our personal desires, our values, our fears and what we need to release to create change. We must let go of the way we think things should be and allow things to unfold according to a higher plan.

The sensual, earth-bound Taurus New Moon, on May 3rd, prompts us to seek contentment and peace. The Moon is symbolically exalted in the sign of Taurus, indicating a strong center on the material plane. Focus on values, finances, personal desires, and resources are underscored. Our outdated attitudes towards money are highlighted as well. We are called to open our hearts and become aware of what we truly value and let go of all that no long serves us.

Taurus is a fixed sign by nature. Its stubborn side tends to resist change. It can bog us down, by its attempts to maintain the status quo. We all have the sign of Taurus highlighted somewhere in our natal charts. Venus, the traditional ruler of Taurus, is in Aries until May 15th along with Uranus, Mercury, Jupiter and Mars. This combination offers opportunities to break free of old structures and emotional attachments, to begin things anew. The forceful energy of Mars slows its pace on May 11th as it enters Taurus for the next six weeks. Practical determination and persistence helps us focus on our goals.

The powerful and passionate Scorpio Full Moon on May 17th, co-ruled by Mars and Pluto, emphasizes our need for adjustments between the ego and the higher self. Under this Full Moon, we are asked to courageously confront our fears, release and let go of what we no longer need. The Sabian symbol for this Full Moon emphasizes choice. We can adjust to new circumstances or remain imprisoned by old forces. We must trust our intuition, to take the next step.

We are ready to infuse greater originality and creativity where the signs of Taurus and Scorpio fall in our charts. Gratitude and appreciation for the simple earthly pleasures of life offer true happiness. This month spend time in nature and discover what truly brings you joy!

The Number 13

Light from the lantern of Esoteric Science frees our minds from medieval superstitions connected with the number 13. Let’s review this number that unfortunately is synonymous with death and bad luck for many people in the west.

The mystical meaning of the number 13 was unknown to the uneducated masses of 14th century Europe. Thirteen people were present at the Last Supper which preceded the death of Jesus. The death of Jesus took place on a Friday, rendering it unlucky and negative to early Christians. Thirteen was seen

by many European Christians as a number of death, unlucky fate, and treachery.

On Friday the 13^th– 1307, Phillip the 4th of France initiated fabricated charges of heresy that resulted in the arrests and tortures of the Knights Templar’s of that country. With the blessing of Pope Clement the 5th, Templar property was stolen and Templar’s were killed and hideously tortured by the” Holy Inquisition”. This tragedy further reinforced the growing superstition that 13 was an unlucky number.

The 13th card of Tarot’s Major Arcana is the death and rebirth card. The death aspect is too often accented by exoteric tarot readers to the exclusion of the equally present rebirth and renewal quality of the card. Occult study shows death and rebirth to be expressions of the continuous motion and change of life.

The Phoenix is a positive example of the number 13, as it symbolizes renewal, and rebirth from the ashes of death. The Initiate who experiences allegorical death and mystical rebirth of the soul, is another example of the positive nature of the number 13. A circle of 12 stones with a central stone in the middle, expresses the number 13, and is a microcosmic symbol of our macrocosm. To the astrologer and occultist, it is a symbol of oneness expressing itself in 12 manifestations.

Thirteen is the number of unity in the Kabalah.

Our Masonic forefathers understood the positive meaning of the number 13, and used it frequently in the Great Seal of the United States. The fact that there were 13 original colonies is not the reason 13 was used so extensively on the obverse and reverse of our Great Seal. The Secret Destiny of America- by Manly P.
