There are many excellent guided meditations on YouTube that will help you sleep or get back to sleep. Some of those narrators also have guided meditations for astral travel which include Jason Stephenson and Rosalie Silva, also known as Rosalie Yoga. They use the classic technique of relaxing the physical body first and then freeing the energy body to travel through time and space. Some will have you go up a flight of stairs to enter another peaceful location or enter a portal to travel either back in time or forward into the future. Others will lift you up to travel among the clouds and stars and travel around the universe.
The latter reminded me of a poem called “High Flight” about air travel that most pilots know. It was written by a Royal Canadian Air Force pilot in 1941 a few months before he was killed in a training accident. The reason that I know about it, is because some of the networks would use it to sign off the air in the 1960’s. When I was in junior high school, my oldest sister and brother-in-law would have me babysit for them when they went out on a Saturday night. That meant that I could stay up after putting the kids to bed and watch a late-night movie on one of three channels that we got back in those days. After the movie, the network would play a video featuring the poem before signing off the air. It was quite a production as it showed a jet flying in the clouds with beautiful music playing in the background as the speaker elegantly recited the poem. Here are the words to the poem:
High Flight
By John Gillespie Magee Jr.
Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I’ve climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
of sun-split clouds,—and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of—wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov’ring there,
I’ve chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air ….
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark nor ever eagle flew—
And, while with silent lifting mind I’ve trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.
I also found an original 1960’s version on YouTube of course. It still gives me chills when I
watch it. The website for that is at
After getting the hang of astral travel by listening to a few of these guided meditations, you can use your own imagination for astral travel on your own, and not be limited by the guided meditations. There is no right or wrong way to do it. If you do it late at night, you’ll probably fall asleep which is okay. I ask Spirit to surround me with a blue light to protect me from any negative energy, thoughts, or entities. As I mentioned before, you can zip around the universe, visit different planets, go back in time or into the future. You can go into different dimensions or astral planes and meet other celestial beings such as angels, guides, and devas. You can visualize meeting them or perhaps you will actually meet some. In any event, you can also do as it is stated in the last three lines of the poem:
And, while with silent lifting mind I’ve trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.
