In the future, history will view the Egyptian pharaoh Kafra, also known as Chefren, as one who repaired and rebuilt the Great Sphinx of Giza around 2,500 B.C., but did not create it. Originally carved with a woman’s face, the Sphinx was constructed approximately 10,500 B.C. by Atlantean survivors using cyclopean masonry methods. The enigmatic Sphinx is a combination of the fifth zodiacal sign Leo the lion, and the female sixth sign Virgo. In a zodiac with Aries on the eastern horizon, Virgo will be higher in elevation than Leo, which it adjoins, paralleling their position in the Sphinx.
The mystery of the higher and lower minds and their interrelationship is demonstrated in the Sphinx through the astrological symbolism of two sun-signs. Unlike today, early Lemurians had only Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, and Capricorn, with later Lemurians adding Leo and Virgo to then total ten zodiacal signs. Atlantean astrologers Included the opposites of Leo and Virgo, namely Aquarius and Pisces, to construct a twelve- sign zodiac that is still used today.
The mind consciousness sphere surrounding Earth is divided into two portions, the higher intuitive mind or divine mind indicated by Virgo, and its reflection called the lower concrete mind or mortal mind, depicted by Leo. The higher mind reflects soul consciousness, wisdom, intuition, and wholeness. Our analytical lower mind manifests human mentality, knowledge and difference. One’s soul mind is eternal and continues to evolve and expand over many lifetimes, unlike mortal minds which are temporary, changing with each physical incarnation. The higher mind attunes to the Causal-Intuitive body, while mortal mind is expressed through the Mental vehicle of the soul.
Unifying and connecting these two portions of our total mind is the antahkarana or antaskarana. The antahkarana is a medium of communication and energy flow between the higher and lower minds which conveys thoughts between the soul mind and the limited human personality mind. As we spiritually evolve over eons, the antahkarana slowly develops and opens, allowing our soul minds to increasingly express themselves through our lower minds. Antahkarana development becomes more rapid as the aspirant begins to work with the mind and mental matter in the process of their development.
In addition to the antahkarana linking the higher and lowers minds of humans, various writers use different definitions for the word antahkarana. The antaskarana may contain one, two or three streams of energy within it depending on the definition. The antahkarana proper is a single thread of energy embodying consciousness that is anchored in the brain. Some descriptions include the life thread and/or the creative thread with the antahkarana proper. The triple antahkarana corresponds to the three paths of spiritual fire in the spinal cord. An imaginary horizontal plane between the human head of the Sphinx and it’s lion body portrays the Sphinx’s antahkarana.
The Giza Sphinx is also a powerful solar symbol related to the sun-god Re, as it faces east toward the rising sun. In ancient times it served as a temple of instruction and initiation into the Ancient Mysteries, with the Sphinx acting as a sentinel at the doorway of this higher knowledge. Underneath the Sphinx are passageways, rooms and chambers connected to the Giza pyramid complex where the Secret Wisdom was taught to initiates by the hierophant of the Sphinx temple.
